Turbo coolant line recirculation?

I had a stainless steel line recirculating the coolant but its kind of big and the top fitting stripped out of the housing. So I was wondering if anyone blocked off the ports? Used a different recirculation method? Thanks all

It's not incredibly important that you have coolant running through the turbo. It's more of a safety feature for people who don't properly cool down their car with a turbo timer (or sit in the car for a couple minutes). I ran without coolant lines on my 57 trim CT-26 for a few months.

I ran my t04e without any coolant lines for a year, but I did have a turbo timer on it.

I had a jdm ct26 that had its coolant lines blocked off. I never ran my that way, but food for thought...

Well I have a T04r on my car with the line recirculated like I mentioned in my first post. I just wanted to see if anyone has blocked the ports off, or recirculated the coolant in any different way? I think I will just block them off, any place to buy plugs?

Every auto parts store I've been to usually has a selection of various rubber plugs that will work just fine. As I recall, I connected the two stock lines together, rather then plugging both of them. Then I put plugs over the turbo side just to keep debris from getting in there.

Sounds good to me, thanks Bishop! You think the pressure is low enough that it wouldn't push a rubber plug out?

I remember reading something on SF saying it was a really bad idea to just block the ports off instead of recirculating it.

Just something to consider... whoever said it back in the day could have been totally wrong :)

Would that be because it would hurt the flow of the coolant? Running through the lines and it comes to a dead end with no where to go doesn't seem as good as just connecting the two stock lines together and keeping the natural flow.

The 7M-GE doesn't have those two lines and it's thermostat housing is near identical design. I find it hard to believe that it's essential for flow. That said, if you do chose to blockoff the coolant rather then just bypass you will need something that can hold pressure. The turbo side won't be under pressure, but you should put some hose clamps on loosely to at least prevent the cap from falling off.

If you look at the 7M cooling system there it has the turbo coolant lines looped with a different configuration for the banjo fittings and rubber hose. Not that it is essential but cant hurt to keep it looped if you dont use coolant on the turbo.

My SP turbo doesn't use coolant lines. Welded the feed/return closed on the water neck...no problems ;)

no benefits for OEM turbo really. Some turbo's dont use rad coolant and thus you need to loop or block the original lines.

So from what this thread is saying if you use a turbo timer and allow proper time for the turbo to cool and the oil to calm down, iti s ok not to run the water lines to the ct-26. im asking because im going NA-t and it woudl be one less thing to worry about. i am running a b&m oil cooler and thermostat

I agree. It is a safety net for the masses. It keeps the turbine a little cooler for hot shut downs.

eh. the turbo coolant lines and tstat bypass on the NA is just that- a bypass for the coolant. i've seen weird cooling issues w/it blocked, i run a line connecting the two....YMMV....
