troubles taking the dash off

ok i got everything off the dash, and I started to pull it out...but i ran into a problem, i can get the right side of the dash off no prob but the left side keeps on getting hung up on the case behind the wheel(wiper/turn sigs go into it)...do i need to take the cover off?? or am i uninstalling it incorrectly?

I just took my dash out yesterday. At first I thought I was going to have to remove the covers around the steering column but then just wiggling and tilting the dash a bit got it out without removing them. I found that it was a lot easier to figure which way to wiggle it by looking from the outside since it kept getting stuck between the windshield and the steering wheel.

i struggled with my dash for a while, trying to get it out around stuff. Do yourself a favor and go this route: after all the dash is completely loose, remove the shifter, then sit in the driver's seat and unbolt the two bolts holding the steering column up. It will drop into your lap and you can easily get the dash out without pulling/bending/breaking stuff.

Actually, they are nuts on studs, but they are right behind the adjustments on the column. I put a 6" extension on a ratchet to get to them. I remember being able to see them from sitting in my driver seat when I was taking them off.

Umm, have you thought of removing your steering wheel? It only takes a couple minutes, and it will make your life a lot easier in removing the dash. I just did this recently myself.

^ nah, just drop the column and let the whole assy sit on the driver's seat. it's 2 (17mm?) nuts. look under the column, you'll see them. no need to pull the wheel, though- that's for sure.

You can get away without removing the wheel, but it's more of a pain in the ass to do.

Woa good thread, I was going to be pulling my dash soon. Stuff like those 2 bolts to drop the column will save me alot of hassle ; )

no it isn't. it's far easier, actually. read my above post.

pull the two 17mm nuts holding it to the main dash support, which will allow the wheel to drop down and rest on the driver's seat. (do this right before you're about to actually remove the dashboard)

the dash will come out right around it. (pull it out the passenger's side.

I also found that it is even easier to pull the 4 bolts out of the driver's seat, and let it drop even further.

But back to the original post........Are you sure you are getting stuck on the steering column? There is one hidden bolt that you may have missed. If I remember right, it is above the climate control area, and back between the heater core and another piece. It takes a long extension to get to. It's not too hard to find, but many people miss it.

Definately drop the steering column it makes dash removal a painless affair!!

I just removed mine a couple weeks ago. Lowering the column helped. Also, the dash snaps in at the base of the windshield. You have to work it out.
