Hi was just trying to find some info on the os triple clutch as I have just put a triple plate in my 7mgte/r154 supra Now I bought both of these untested from japan the clutch look like it was ok

Now have it running and it's dam noisy have been told they were when you depress the clutch and have seen some you tube vids that sound similar

But problem is just at idle with foot off clutch it sounds like there's been s bag of bolts been dropped into my transmission after 2krpm sound fine?? Same thing if driving slow and cruising in 5th accelerate if low in rpm I feel rattling and horrid noise

Trying to find out how much is normal multiplate behavior or if somethings really wrong

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers Scott

I've heard they are noisy, yours sounds like it may be excessive. Make a vid for us? Is it holding the power? What one specifically did you get? I'm researching twin and tripple plate clutches currentlt because my RPS slips in 4th midway to high range when dragging. Some off the start too.

I'm curious which one you got and it's $$$ etc. Drivability review other than sound also.

they are loud as hell.. hence the saying, " the twin plates singing." -this can be applied to a triple plate too though.

as Flateric said, yours may be excessive because the condition I'm referring to only happens when the clutch is disengaged.

Even the rattling rumbling noise at idle that's what I was more concerned about.

Some one said that the release Bering should be touching the pressure plate the whole time that will stop the excess Idle noise

Then the people that were tuning my car said the release Bering should be on the pressure plate because will cause uneccasary pressure on the crank and do my berrings in so that's the way it's currently adjusted

I come from a land down under
Release bearing SHOULDN'T be touching.....

There's no sprung hub in the Discs so you'll get chatter from the Input shaft Splines then you'll get floater rattle from the intermediate plates whenever you push the clutch in, all part of running Race parts in a Street car..

Doesn't a faster idle hide a bit of this noise? I know the MKIV guys have a simular issue with gear clash in the tranny if the idle is kept stock.

A higher idle would shut it up but if the noise isn't my car self destructing I can live with it

It currently isn't touching just the shop tuning my car said something was wrong with my clutch and it does sound nasty but you are right ij I can't expect race parts to be smooth like stock I just have zero first hand expereance with any of this stuff so when a performance shop tells me they have delt with plenty of multiplates before but mine wasn't right and I should pull the box and get the clutch inspected I thought I'd would pay to ask it drives nicely

The first time I installed a multiplate clutch, we fired it up and I thought FOR SURE we'd done something wrong. However, the ugly noise was just the usual multiplate nonsense. Since then I've heard quite a few, and they're all noisy bitches.

I too was a bit surpised when we started up with the triple plate in my car, but it is normal since the plates aren't being held together when you've got the clutch pedal down.

Mine tends to squeal even when it's in gear though, anyone have thoughts on that? It's not too much squealing and it tends to die down as you go faster so I'm assuming that may be normal as well.

Broken flexplate or loose torque converter would be my guess.
