Got my car running good but there is a whine in 1st and 2nd that almost sounds like a blow off valve. Anybody have any ideas as to what causes this and how to remedy it? Also, I have old purple window tint that I need to take off. Does anybody know of an easy way of getting it off such as a spray on or something similar that might melt it or make it easier to get off? Thanks!!!

I have always removed tint with a straigh razor. The glue comes off with an adhesive remover. I would rather use elbow grease than money.

The noise in first and second only is most likely internal. A chipped tooth or two can do it. Is there any other time it makes the noise? Clutch engaged/disengaged or moving at all?

There are several ways to remove the tint, depending on which window. I believe that you can just use some good, new, razors on the side windows. If you want to keep your defroster lines in the rear window, I'd follow the instructions at www.tintdude.com

I just did this last weekend. Take a blag trashbag, place on outside of window and using the razor, cut to the general shape of the window.

Douse the inside (tint) with Formula 409 from a spray bottle and "stick" the trashbag to it. Basically the trashbag will keep the 409 from drying off and the bag will stick to anything wet. Leave it facing the sun (hot sun.. maybe ~80 degress), for about an hour.

Slowly try to peel back the tint (uses a razor or fingernail to start it), while keeping the trashbag in place. If you pull off the trashbag, the remaining 409/tint will dry while you work on one section, and you will have to start over.

Many times, you can pull all the tint off in one pass, but like in my case, I had to make several passes at pulling broken off pieces out. Good luck!

Try also running the defroster and heat in the car... should make it much easier. If you can rent a steamer, that will do the trick as well...

razor blade worked fine on the tint. Anybody know how to remove tint on the back window without tearing up the heating element? Thanks

Look at my previous response....

I just did this, this last weekend. It works. Otherwise, pay the pros to do it and save your defroster. A new, universal defroster strip is about $50+ and a pro might remove the hatch tint (and the rest of your tint) for about $25, while still saving the defroster lines.

It's kinda PITA-like, but if U do what I told you, or go to the site I mentioned, you'll be okay. Not worth losing that defroster... for me anyways.
