So Im almost positive that I am leaking trans fluid from my manual 5 speed in my 1987 NA supra and was wondering where the most likely places for it to leak might be when I put it up on a lift on thursday. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i can think of 3 quick areas.. the tail and (and darn it i cant remember if it is the same as the r154) the fill/drain "pluglike " bolts can get warped and leak.. (tightening it too hard)

its possible you might be leaking oil from your rear main as well.

Mine was leaking from the rear transmission seal. I believe it was because the yoke had a little corrosion on it (it was swapped from auto by the previous owner). So I just replaced it with an aluminum single piece, replaced the seal and it was all better. You will know it's the rear transmission seal for sure if it is spraying fluid all over the undercarriage like mine did :3d_frown:.

Well you may be able to tell whether it is motor oil or tranny because of the smell. Gear oil is....different.

But yeah if the oil is at the base of the bell-housing and block it could be either motor or tranny.

Hell just get under and look.

I just repaired a leak on my R154. I had tranny oil coming out between the bellhousing and engine, plus some out of the access plates on the bellhousing. Turned out it was the front tranny seal, inside the bellhousing. A mess in that I had to replace my clutch disk because it was soaked in tranny oil. The good news is no more leak, and gee, my clutch feels better too. :)

Thanks alot for the info guys.
Yeah I was jsut asking so when i can look under it i know what to look for. IT turns out it was the oil filter on the motor . I let the oil change place do it and they didnt tighten it enough..... last time i let that happen. so i tightened it and then powerwashed the oil off.

ya. when owning a supra its best to do the work your self or have a rep. shop do it for yo. jiffy lube will not cut it. also with moving air leaking fluid will move backwards.
