I got a chance to get alot of work done on my car for almost free all i got to do is supply the supplies. So i was thinking of having them change the transmission fuild from the factory type to a synthetic type what is yours all thoughts. The car has around 90,000 miles on it, i know that i have waited to late to be able to pick up any redline or royal purple but the local shops do carry Lucas and Val synthetic. Thanks

I don't know what you mean by "waited too long", but for a manual tranny, get Red Line MT-90. You will not regret it.

Most of the other 75W-90 gears oils out there (including RP and Valvoline) are a GL5 meant for LSD differentials. They contain a friction modifier that can cause the synchros not to operate properly...some friction is required in this case. Pennzoil makes a GL4 oil that will also work well.

BTW - there's an entire thread on this subject in the Lube Section ;)
