Trans question????

So my second gear syncro is bad and I have a second R154 trans just sitting around. I want to swap them out, but here is my question. I've been reading around and I saw that most of you guys suggest taking the whole bellhousing off, but in the TSRM they dont say anything about taking the bellhousing off, is there a simpler way of getting that huge lug of a trans out.

Bellhousing is attached to the tranny from inside the bellhousing...

I know, would it be simpler to undo those 8 bolts so you don't have to worry about the starter and moving the engine?

You can't access them...

I think you got mixed up with removing the pressure plate bolts before taking off the trans.
