Welcome to the forum first of all always nice to have new blood:biglaugh: anyway check your tranny fluid level and condition of the fluid itself. The tranny dipstick is on the drivers side. The tranny fluid should be dark red not brown and burnt. Enjoy the MK!

My 1990 turbo that I bought last year does the same thing. If I let her warm up for about 10 minutes she will shift fine but if I start driving her fairly cold she will wind first gear for ever. I took it to a local tranny shop and they called it morning sickness, drained the fluid and checked the clutches. Said it was old, had more than normal wear and wanted a ludicris amount to rebuild it. Bought one off the for sale section and have been too lazy to put it in yet. My guess is one of the solenoids is sticky, don't know alot about auto trans so I'm not going to try and go into it to figure it out.

By the way, welcome.
