Tranny + Water Please help

I am planning on swapping my clutch this weekend. It hit me yesterday that I want to have the Flywheel resurfaced in the process. I quickly found out that having it done on the weekend was going to be difficult. I was hoping to be able to borrow one to get it done on Friday, but found out late that it wasn't going to happen. So, I struck out after 8 o'clock last night pulling my tranny to get mine out and get it done. Well due to being old, having neck issues, and poor jacks, I am very slow. I the tranny out and pulled it from under the car as I found out that I would need a 12 point socket to get my ARP bolts out. So, at 1:30 this morning, very frustrated, I pulled the power from my light, leaving all of my tools where they were, and tranny in the driveway. Yesterday was absolutely beautiful, and today started that way too, so I planned to straighten up after work. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. It did a pretty good bit of raining this afternoon, while the shifter hole was not covered at all.

So, what have I got to do about any rain water that may have entered. I am not completely sure what I need to do about draining a tranny. I tried to drain one off of one of my parts cars, and I pulled every plug in it, with no fluid draining from anywhere. That leaves me confused a bit, but I think that may have been an isolated case. What damage can come from this.

I'd just wash it out with some Gas and let it evaporate.

Yah, and if you still unsure after that, once its running again let it sit for a few days, and pull the drain plug for a second. Water is more dense.

just drain it, flush it with a solvent(ie gas or atf. i prefer atf as it isnt flamable) and refill it, any extra moisture will evaporate out the vent. i would go for a nice long drive to help evaporate it out.

Yeah you should be just fine if it was only wet for a day.

I have a few points to add.

1. Drin plug is on the very bottom.
2. Do what ij said
3. You have a breather I beileve that will vent any condensate left over
4. While its out...I usally take the fill plug out of the side and fill through the shifter till it runs out the fill hole.
5. Your gear oil will float on any water you missed as prevuisly stated. Open up the bottom drain plug and let the water out and then refill till it comes out that fill plug.

Thanks for the help guys. It seems the gasoline would be better because of it's ability to evaporate. It just concerns me a little because of the fume factor escaping into the cab.

How much gasoline should I use? Is there any danger if I slosh it around in there too roughly? Just trying to think of all angles before doing it.

Have you tried standing it up on end to see how much water comes out? I wouldn't think you'd need more than half a gallon of gas at the most. Pour it in and slosh it the best you can.
