Ok prolly a dumb question but when you bypass the stock cooler all together do you just block off the ports on the bottom of the radiator and hook the tranny lines directly to the cooler? Thanks Bill.

I've been wondering about transmission vs. oil coolers

couldnt i buy either of the ones posted by jdub and use that for an oil cooler?

is there anything that really designates one vs the other?

Nope...the stack plate design is the best for both applications IMO. For oil, you want to get the biggest one you can fit.

I'd swap over to a full flow, thermostat controlled cooling circuit too and get rid of the cooler relief valve in the stock filter head. A "How To" is posted in the Lube section stickies.

awesome. go take a diesel tranny cooler that looks like a radiator! haha

how do you go about draining yours though? when you change your oil, do you undo the fitting to empty it?

I don't, the filters I use keeps the oil analytically clean...I change oil when the add pack/TBN is depleted. But, you can...just just the motor over with the EFI fuse pulled till you get a pressure indication to make sure it's filled before you run it.

Gonna ask this here so I don't make useless threads. Not sure who is the transmission tech here but I need to know about a small clip in the valve body. When you take the two halves apart there is a small clip that is laying in there and I'm sure it is supposed to be clipped to something or in a certain direction. I couldn't really see a definitive picture in the TSRM. Does anyone know of a good breakdown diagram of the valve body? Or lead me in the right direction. Thanks Bill.

Surely someone here has done this before. I'll be digging into my valve body again tommorow or Tues. Depending on when toyota gets my valve body gaskets in. Any info would be great. Thanks Bill.

Well I went to Toyota Today and figured it out but I'll scan the exploded view they gave me for future reference if anyone else has this question.

Ok part number 35422F is the clip. It connects to 35462. When you take the bolts out of the valve body and lift the upper portion off this clip is just laying on its side. But if you look on the valve body you can see 35462 and where the clip goes. Also a pin and a woodruff key may also fall out but they are easily located. If anyone needs pics of this I can take my old valve body apart and show them. Thanks for the replies. Thanks Bill.
