alright to start off...i did this check because the car stalls sometimes at idle. the rpms will drop really low and either stall or get back to normal. the two codes are 42 and 51. if you have seen my other posts, i have a recirculated bov, a working ISC now, and no vacuum leaks. normal idle now and properly adjusted dashpot thing.

i set the ohmmeter to 20K scale and did the resistance check according to the TSRM for an 87 7MGTE...these are my readings...

0.0mm VTA-E2 .58
0.5mm IDL-E2 .03
0.9mm IDL-E2 .03
throttle fully open VTA-E2 4.23
- VC-E2 5.72

so if someone would be so kind to convert that and see if the TPS is bad:1zhelp: i would really appreciate it.

Whats to convert? The values either fall within the TSRM limits or they don't. That said:

1) IDL is either bad or the TPS isn't adjusted correctly with the .9 mm feeler. The reading at that point should be infinity like the book says. Likely needs adjustment.

2) Assuming the measurements are valid a TPS generated code 51 isn't possible with those IDL-E2 values.

3) 20K scale? For IDL-E2 testing use the lowest range the meter has. Not that 20K won't work but it's bad technique.

My conclusion (arrived at through this little cable no less): the TPS is good but needs adjustment. I have no explanation for the code 51 but suspect operator headspace error...

idk if this helps but when it's about to stall, it runs full lean. i don't drive it like that, just when it's about to stall. normal driving is perfect AFR's

this isn't easy. everytime i adjust it, it will be in spec on the first check, infinity at the .9mm check, but also infinity at the .5mm check. very frustrating!

That's what I did. The stalling and going lean thing is what's driving me crazy. The Afr's go off the charts lean and it stalls. I'm thinkin about smoke testing at work but I don't get much time. The only code that keeps coming back is the 51
