TPS and code 51

I am trying to adjust my TPS to get rid of a code 51. I tried adjusting it with it on the car but couldnt get rid of the 51. I removed TB to get a closer look and clean it. I tested resistance per tsrm. It checked out ok with the tps almost maxed out rotated down. I plugged it back into the harness and the CEL flashes rapidly. When I adjust it back a little, it goes back to flashing code 51 but then I get no reading on IDL-E2 with the .5mm feeler gauge in. Any suggestions?

Replace the tps if its out of spec.

Also not having a/c hooked up will throw a 51 as well.

Also if there are no codes it will just constantly flash at the same pace. How quickly is it coming back on?

I cleared all other codes, my only code is 51. So to be sure I understand, if there are no codes the CEL will flash constantly? Then my TPS is set? I was confused since when my resistance were correct I got the constant flashing instead of the five then one flash.

Yes. Its just flashes and flashes and flashes at the same rate forever if there are no codes.

thanks, I just found where I missed that in the tsrm. I have never had a "no malfunction" condition before. I usually at least have a 21, which I am sure I will have again when I start it back up. Thanks for clearing that up.

I wish you'd quit saying this. It's wrong.

I no longer have my ac compressor installed and I have a code 51. Does this mean the AC is for sure not the culprit? I was hoping it wasn't the TPS.

Removal of any refrigeration component is irrelevant to code 51 generation.

It's not for sure the culprit unless:

1) The AC button is illuminated.

2) The AC amplifier you left behind in the dash is bad.

3) The wiring is screwed up.

I think my TPS is messed up so I ordered a new one. I also have no AC but I don't think that would cause it (I checked for the button on and off trick) I am running Mapecu and under cold starting my car will idle low and when reviewing the map screen I notice my TPS is constantly fluctuating on idle which should not happen, right? It should stay somewhat constant I would think. Also my revving is not consistent and with a code 51 I went with a new TPS.

The code 51 AC thing is not hard to fathom. The climate control head sends a signal to the AC amplifier. The AC amplifier turns on the compressor clutch and at the same time sends an idle up signal to the ECU. It's this signal that is used by the diag system to generate 51. The entire point of this, in diag mode at least, is to provide a method of quickly verifying whether the climate control head, AC amplifier, and wiring to the ECU for idle up are OK.

I wired in a new plug onto one of the selenoids located on the ac line that runs along the passenger side. Both wires were black so I have no idea if I wired them backwards or not. Would that produce a code 51?
