Hi guys its been yrs since ive last posted on here, but i have come across a possible genuine Turbo-A. But i want to make sure that it is.

Now does any one know whats meant to say on the compliance plate? and also any other features that i should be aware of to make sure this is the real deal.

Im very excited if this is a real Turbo-A as i've always wanted one :icon_bigg

Thanks in advance.

The Turbo-A was Toyota's evolution model for Group A touring car championships all over the world which required a minimum homologation run of 500 which were only sold in Japan and was produced between August and September 1988. Some noted differences between the standard Supra and the Turbo-A model are both cosmetic and some mechanical. The engine came with a special head that had less valve shrouding, and clearance cut for higher lift cams. The turbo had a larger inducer, the intercooler had extra rows of pass tubes, the intercooler piping was larger in diameter, and it had a 65mm throttle body, instead of the standard 7M-GTE 60mm size. The fuel management used a MAP system, instead ot the standard Karmen Vortex AFM. The front bumper, and the 3-piece spoiler and taillights were used on all Japanese market, US market, and other market vehicles starting in 1989 instead of the typical 86–88 set. The front nose however features an additional "Turbo A duct" to add airflow to the heat exchangers. Also unique was the side decal and rear badging '3.0GT Turbo A' and a black paint job (all 500 are black paint code 202). The engine bay features a 266 hp (198 kW) 7M-GTEU. All Turbo-As also came standard with grey leather interior featuring a Momo-sourced steering wheel and shift knob.

and that is from wikipedia

Unfortunately the old Turbo-A site in Australia has died, because it had lots of great info - www.turbo-a.net

These extracts are from the Turbo-A site:

Engine:
- Larger throttle body
- Unlabelled intake pipe of larger diameter (ie: no '3000'pipe)
- Compressor side turbo larger
- D-Jetro MAP system (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Speed/Density air metering & accompanying ECU (as opposed to MAF Mass Air Flow metering). Does away with restrictive air flow meter. On standard mk3s until you go advanced piggyback or standalone engine management, you'll still be going through the air flow meter.
- Larger CT26 turbo with the "E" symbol on Compressor Cover as identification
- Boost up from 0.48kg/cm2 to 0.55kg/cm2 (larger actuator)
- Unique ECU to match D-Jetro system
- Metal air cleaner box
- Larger intercooler
- Oil cooler moved to center position, below turbo A duct

So you have a few things to look for under the bonnet ;)

Also, a genuine Turbo-A should have the body code 'E-MA70-BLMXZ' on the build plate in the engine bay, like below...

Thanks for that lot of info, that is perfect, just what i was looking for, and so far from what im seeing, this car is the real deal, the compliance plate numbers match in every way, the inlet looks to be larger with a metal intake over the AFM, the rest id have to get the guy to confirm, or you guys for that matter as ill post some pics of it for you to check out? I just hope its still the original engine, not some standard 7m-GTE put in you know?

Anyway ill put up some pics real soon and you guys can give me the low down then.

Cheers,

Simon

No because we are unsure how many toyota actually made 500 was just the minimum number they had to produce.
