Was going through a stock 7M freshen-up, and among other things, ordered new wrist pin cir-clips from Champion Toyota,
( p/n 90521-25001 ) through their on-line parts system.
Entered the part number, their system accepted the order, so I figured all was good, and in a few days the cir-clips would be here.

3 days later, I received an e-mail from Champion saying that the order was canceled.
Like WTF !
Maybe I had screwed the pooch on the part number.......
So I called them, they looked it up, and told me that they are no longer available from Toyota!

So, are they dropping all parts support for the 7M ?
( calling Jeff Lange )
Or is their a replacement p/n, that the guy at Champion failed to catch ?

Anyway, JE uses the same size cir-clips, so I ordered some from them.
Looked at some Wisecos that I have set asside for another project,
theirs are too small of wire size, and won't interchange.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Toyota doesn't make them any more. They haven't built a 7m powered car for 16 years now, and they didn't even make that many of them comparatively.

Besides, when was the last time Toyota didn't let us down?

Toyota is actually quite good about keeping parts around and in production compared to many other car companies.

Don't bitch too much LOL

2009 has been the year of discontinuation from what I've seen.

MANY parts for many models have been dropping off, not just the 7M and not just the A70.

That being said, the clips still come with new pistons, so you could just order yourself a new set of those ;).

I am quite surprised that a part like that clip is no longer available though, it's not usually like Toyota to get rid of a mechanical/engine part like that so soon, especially one used for all of the 7M's, etc.

Keeping parts around isn't cheap. In this economy, the leaner the process, the better for the bottom line. Cutting spares inventory is a no-brainer. Sucks for us, but compared to many other vehicles, we still have a ton of parts readily available.

Hey Jeff, quick OT question........... what's it look like on interior screws for the mk2? I'm probably gonna need some in the future, was wondering if they're even still available...

Very rarely does a dealership do that kind of engine work, most times the shortblock is replaced.

That being said, if a dealer needed to, they'd order new pistons.

As for your question Tanya, they're common to many models, so they are still available from what I've seen. :)

Just a few months ago I called one dealership to price rear OEM shocks and he told me there aren't any available. Called another dealership and he is able to get them.

Only part I haven't been able to get was the cosmetic screw cover for the passenger door trim which was aquired at the pick-a-part free and matches.

Makes me think these guys are playing the "scarcity" game where if you think it is that hard to get then you're happy to get raped by the dealership. That's the old selling a snowball to an eskimo game.

BTW I have extra interior screws, new ones for the interior. Does that mean they are an "investment" akin to gold....GMAB

Toyota makes the same parts available to dealerships in the same area. Chances are the first dealership you called either looked up the wrong part or read the information incorrectly.

There's no reason one dealer would tell you a part isn't available and another one will say it is, as far as trying to somehow screw you. The dealerships are competing with each other, not working together to screw you.

My suggestion is find a good parts person/establishment, and deal with them. :)

OK .. it makes sense if they havent produced the car in roughly 20 years that they would stop making parts for it ... and even in the usa here its hard to get parts for an american car that is that old .. even our salvage yards dont carry the older stuff anymore .. theres no money in it .. and the market isnt there ... what is there is sucked up by ebay and other low priced/ low quality substitutes for the original .. not so hot in the end though is it ..

It sucks that they're dropping parts, but I don't think it has to do with the age of the car. You can find many things brand new for let's say a '70 chevelle. There's a bigger demand for parts for a chevelle than there is for a supra. It's a shame, because scarcity does raise prices, and I can see myself having an mkiii around for a long time.
