I am glad you added that disclaimer IJ. You know someone would have read your tip and would have tried to do this with a crank that really does need ground one day!:)

Dont kill me if its already mentioned but a 10mm nut in the oil pump will increase the oil pressure. I have a 90 7mgte with 188k on the clock and i just did a bearing job / oil pump mod. Before i was seeing 3 psi max at idle and now its up to 10-12 psi at operating temperature. I rev it up holding 3k rpm and its at 45 psi, mind you its got 188,890 miles. Good luck Kai

^ string him by his toe nails!
Betting the psi increase was from fresh bearings.. If shimming the oil pump helps anything except max psi, the spring is worn.

After going through 3 race engines with failed/deformed rod bolts I won't pull one apart anymore without replacing the rod bolts with ARP's. I know a lot of people do just fine with stock and I admit these are engines in race cars (although the internals are basically stock), but it still indicates to me a weak link in that bottom end. Suprarich would be delighted to send you a set for less than $50 + Frt. Cheap insurance to me.

I second the notion of probably NOT polishing the journals. Just clean them up, mic them to make sure they're in spec and so you can choose your select fit bearings, and put it back together. You can make a crank that was acceptable to use suddenly not acceptable if you've never done the before and aren't extremely careful.
