How well do I need to flush my system to change from green to red?

Just put in an aluminum rad with green, read this post, stepped on my other foot, landed on my face, ordered some red online.

The Zyrex G05 Grim posted (#10) earlier in this thread is as good or better than the Toyota Red and less expensive. I've used both and either will provide excellent service. The HOAT technology G05 uses has superior corrosion control in both steel and aluminum IMO.

A coolant filter is a worthwhile addition to the system as well.

Any switch from the green coolant will require a through engine/radiator/heater core flush.

The previous owner of my black car (who was an idiot) put green in there, then mixed the red in. The result was disgusting! It was like a muddy mess in my cooling system. :(

Ive run Green in my car so did previous owners. Didnt see any pitting on my head or block. I do plan to switch to Zyrex G05 stuff or Toyota red when i get my Koyo Rad.

I know this topic goes back and forth alot, but I will say this. I have worked at a Toyota dealer for years as a tech and I will always stand by their brand of coolant for everything. I have taken apart engines with 370,xxx ish miles before that always had red in it and had no problems with errosion what so ever. It by far exceeds anything the competion can dream of creating. Green coolant has an ingrediant of silicate/silicone substance that is highly corrosive and Toyota does not put it in their coolant for that reason.
Also the 50/50 pink is even a better brew then the regular red, it does last alot longer than red without needing changing. I use this in my supra and my wifes is300. Downside is it costs more for it but lasts longer so it balances out.
A little cool note to you all, Toyota red coolant in a crocpot makes a great parts cleaner when soaking for about 24 hours then rense off.
Thats all

Yup I concur with Rob, when we did my HG my head has started to corrode from the green and all I'll ever be running is the Red or Pink! Well What ever he can get me a deal on!!

So since I'm going to be draining my radiator anyways, I was pondering the idea of installing a small tap instead of the stupid plug which always makes a mess of everything when draining the radiator. This way to I wont have to worry about pinching the little rubber seal again either. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

So some cold weather is coming into my part of the world so I thought it would be a good idea to freshen up the coolant in the supra. $31 later I was the proud new owner of a jug of toyota coolant. Much to my luck I look out the window and noticed that my $31 was dripping out of the drain plug on my radiator and flowing down the road. Shit, I pinched the rubber gasket and ripped it.

My question is......

Am I out another $31 for a new jug of toyota red or is there another brand of antifreeze that is comparable to it?

Why is your coolant dripping out anyway? Mine is too every once and a while so I think I have a bad head gasket so I'm goin to change that and see what that does. I have also heard it could be a bad thermostat? Still haven't found out for sure what it is yet
