IIRC, those are the differences between hatch and notch cars. What was the chassis code on the motor you bought, AE92 or AE111

The difference between the Trueno and Levin are cosmetic, they are the same chassis code. The bigger question for your swap is the RHD/LHD issue. I dont know enough about the JDM version to tell you if you can use it as it sits or if you have to use it as a core (long block method).

I suggest checking out an AE86 site, there must be dozens of them.

hmm thats what i thought between the two but yeah i would like it to be a direct swap vs a huge drawn out custom thing.

yeah, the Toyota Corolla (AE92) was offered in 4 versions in Japan, a Sedan, a Hatch, and two coupes: the Trueno and the Levin..

We received a "hybrid" version in North America, which came with the Trueno pop up headlights, but a different front bumper, with the same turn signals as the Camry, MR2, etc.(I swapped in a set of clear signals from a 91 Camry on my girl's '90 SR5.) The taillights resemble those of the Levin, with slight variations, mainly the fact that North American taillights were shorter, and the license plate lights were included in the middle piece, and JDM Levin taillights have them on the rear bumper. Our Corolla GT-S came with a Trueno style rear wing, except with a trapezoidal 3rd brake light, instead of the LED bar, otherwise the wing is the same. The Levin came with a two point wing, with it's pedestals at the far ends...

The Levin/Trueno came with a 4AGE, or a supercharged 4AGZE (which came with a functional hood scoop for the top mounted IC)...

Pre-90 SR5 North American Corollas came with a Carbeurated 4A-E, and a Fuel Injected 4AFE for it's last years, and were available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed Automatic...

GT-S Corollas from all years came with the Fuel Injected 4AGE, and were 5-speed only...

That's pretty much all I can remember off the top of my head...

yeah biggest downfall by far. so a corolla engine in any trim should fit as long as it's the same chasis? i don't want some out of control mods to make it fit

That's the thing, luckily the most advanced and powerful 4age's came in FWD, and some are even 6-speed..

The only RWD 4AGE is around 112 hp...

yeah i just ran a search and your bang on. no idea there was a 6spd for the toyota. do you know anything more about it? it doesn't say anything good or bad. i'd assume that this mates straight up to the 4a-ge

i've done some reading on swapping a 4age or 4agze into my '95 corolla. the few things i've read that you'll have to change would be the wiring harness of course and you might need to lengthen power steering hoses and the main fuel hose. other than that it should just drop right in. theres some corolla forums with some good info, like club4ag.com and corollacarclub.com

yeah i was talking with dr.tweak and a new harness is 400$ and the power steering and ac lines need to be fixed. also some vacum lines. i'd assumer the steering link needs to be changed as well to move it from RHD to LHD.

and yeah the black top is the newer version of the engine so i'd stick with the silver top one.
