What's the difference between the 101 and 102? I wouldn't think any sensors are included...

Not sure. Just listing by application in the EPC. I would think you could use either. I looked to see if one superceeded to the other, and they don't.

more can be brought over the pond. These are bare short blocks, no nothing but block, rods, pistons, crank.

Between you and me, I wish more people would use these. this is the perfect way to go when rebuilding your motor. Forget that jdm engine crap!

we already know the differences in the blocks are minimal... most notable are crank, oil squirters. GTE blocks have proper threaded knock sensor pads and turbo oil drain ports.

as long as it is GTE block it wont matter unless you are picky about the crank it has and about the oil squirters (should have it tho)

the amount of metal in the block, and no sensors come with any shortblock

It looks like there's significantly more metal in the later casting blocks...a thicker deck, more/larger reinforcing ribs, wider pan rails. The link to IJ's thread above has pics.

Hold on a second, guys - I would certainly expect a difference between the '87-'88 blocks (052) and '89+ blocks (10x) - but I would *not* expect a difference in the '89 and '90-92 blocks.

Unless what we have here is -

6M crank in a weak block ('87-'88)
6M crank in a strong block ('89)
7M crank in a strong block ('90-'92)

What do you think?

052 is 87-88.
101 is 89, which is 6M crank.
102 is 90-92, which is 7M crank.

Also, keep in mind that if you live close to a dealer that provides good discounts, these can be had for significantly less than MSRP from say Champion Toyota.
