Hammond moved out of intensive care after crash
DOCTORS treating Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond said today his condition has improved and he has been moved out of intensive care.
Hammond is now said to be in a "stable" condition following his high-speed crash in a jet-powered car.
A spokesman at Leeds General Infirmary said: "Doctors say Richard Hammond is making satisfactory progress.
"This morning he has been moved from intensive care on to a high dependency unit.
"His condition has been downgraded from 'serious but stable' to 'stable'."
The news comes after it emerged BBC bosses are facing a double investigation into the crash, which left the presenter critically ill.
The 36-year-old suffered a serious brain injury on Wednesday when the jet-powered car he was driving crashed at nearly 300mph.
The police and the Health and Safety Executive will now try to establish whether Mr Hammond should have been allowed to take charge of the dragster in which he was trying to break the British land-speed record.
The BBC could face criminal charges and fines if they are found to have failed in their duty of care to the Mr Hammond, who lives near Cheltenham with his wife, Mindy, and two daughters, Isabella and Willow.
