yea wtf, ive seen built 13b's (upgraded apex seals) blow with less than 20k all the time! O yea and its someone making over 1k hp with a stock hg on a 2j. I know theres been 950rwhp on the stock bottom end.

Then they dont know how to tune....Rotories are just as bullet proof as any other engine when built correctly. Blowing apex seals are a myth.

Yes, fix it properly and be done with it.

You should never blow one twice if you fixed it right the first time.

It's not a myth if it happens.. I understand that if built right they will hold, but it still happens to the stock engine, so it's not a myth.

Yes I realize that and I was refering to this:

"built 13b's (upgraded apex seals) blow with less than 20k all the time!"

If you are blowing them on a built motor you can not tune. Rotaries are very picky when it comes to fuel, especially when they are upwards of 10000rpm.

A good buddy of mine works at a shop that built a crazy 3 rotor FC rx-7 (single digit). Full ford rear end and everything and its still street legal, quite the looks you get driving around getting coffee in that thing.

If it's soley a japanese list it isn't so bad, but there are engines from other countries/manufacturers that I think are better than some of those.

wrong answer

12x,xxx mile and never a BHG. As a matter of fact when i took oem HG to replace with metal the OEM HG was in good condition. Why? Because I knew better than to turn boost up on a 120,000 mile motor :3d_frown:

you can't deny that bhg isnt a common issue though. even on a bone stock engine... there are blown headgaskets that can and do happen.

just because there are cars that havent blown an HG yet and are getting into high mileage doesnt mean its not an issue that the majority of cars will have to deal with. who's to say if you had gone another 10000 miles or more your stock one would not have blown?

Agreed.

All LSx engines are incredible.

But your right, it looks like an import mag list.

Actually, a BHG is a symptom of another problem. Usually.

Oh yes I can. I have had too many 7M powered products to be "lucky". I have news for you, I have seen factory blown metal headgaskets.

LOL I think the 4g63 is underated. They may not have the displacement and make as much power but my 91 eclipse GSX has 342,xxx original miles on it and still runs good, smokes a little think some rings are going bad. The onlu major work done on this car was the 5 speed tranny was replaced around 200k miles. My 7m is going on 122k original miles, origianl HG and runs very strong. I'm not knocking the 7m and haven't had one long enough to say if it should be on the top10 or not. But in the 2 months I've had one its at the top of my 10. Definately alot of potenial in the 7m. We'll see not going to do any major upgrading until i get a rebuilt jarco engine to build on. Nice thread hope work went good for you guys lol.

Wow, this list is down right embarissing. A few nice engines in there, But a B16, D16 honda engine????? What are they basing this contest on? Fuel economy?

Lets see, how to make a D16 honda engine hold power without blowing up.. Replace the pistons, rods, bolts, rings, crank, bearings, and fill the coolant passages with cement so the open deck aluminum block doesn't crack. Other than that, its a very solid engine to make lots of power.

What a gay magazine.
