crap. mine was whining like this alot too. could this have anything to do with running incredibly rich?

and can the "turbo death whine" happen suddenly? i shifted from 1st to 2nd pretty hard and it started sounding like it was spooling really hard.

Ignition switch circuit
Ignition switch

Main relay

Battery also i guess?!?!:aigo:

Make sure that the ground wires from the engine wiring harness of the intake(underside veiw of it) #5 & #6 are connected. If they are corroded replace them.

Ok but is the car in a fail safe mode? Because It wont hit boost I figure that it was in a certain failsafe as too not provide excessive air or fuel??

In the time you've spent tryng to diagnose this, you could have pulled the hose off and found out for sure if your turbo is done or not. ;)

edit: I just picked up a spare CT26 in great condition from eBay for $115 shipped. I'm probably going to send it out to be checked over and upgraded.

Check for exhaust leaks between the manifold and head and manifold and turbo.

The nuts holding the turbo to the manifold became loose on my car and the gasket there blew out.
It got pretty bad in the following days, even with the nuts tightened down, the gasket was gone at the bottom. It was the longest 5 days waiting for that gasket from Champion Toyota... I could make no more than 5psi with a full 3" exhaust
It was bleedingly slow

my car did exactly this, the reason... i forgot to put the IC hose back on the 3000 pipe.

of course i just had a lack of power and it was hard to even get to 40... man people were pissed on the highway hehe

Man, what the hell! GO CHECK YOUR SHAFT PLAY. It takes about 60 seconds, and will tell you if your turbo is the problem or not!

You don't purchase ANYTHING! You go pull the accordian hose/AFM/Filter off, and you grab the compressor wheel. Gently move it up and down - does it strike the housing? Gently move it in and out - does it strike the housing? Spin it - does it spin freely for a couple seconds after you let go of it?

Just because the turbo is whining badly does not mean it is bad. Maybe you popped off an IC pipe. That would explain the screaming turbo as it is spinning very fast and also makes the turbo FAR more audible with a leak like that. On top of that, you also may get symptoms such as not being able to rev past a certain point. Also, as you stated the turbo does not build pressure. Even a blown turbo will tend to show some pressure.

everyone is pretty much right on in their suggestions here.

death whine (need a new turbo)
squeeky belts (check/replace)
large boost leak (find and correct)

check the IC pipe right off the bottom of the turbo.
