I come from a land down under
After observing quite a few of my motors on teardown I now run them quite loose and use a thicker Oil as a cushion.

I was seeing Bearing smearing/wiping at High Rpm/Load where the bearing surface looked like someone had squeegee'd it with a thumb and the next step would be fatigue/delamination failure.

As for Bearing Errosion... nuh not me in 30 years of playing cars the only time I've seen it was from contamination.

..Why they made the 7mgte with such low pressure i have no idea....but it is a high volume low pressure system...... Im fixing to plumb my remote oil filter and cooler.... I used a 3/8 ball bearing in the Relief spring on pump.. Hope it puts it were i want it.. :}

You think low volume is good?

I dont understand the idea about toyota making high volume low pressure system. Doesnt that just mean all the bearing clearances are larger and flow more/hold less pressure? If thats the case why couldnt you fix that by running the kind of clearances you want? If im totally wrong, my question is, what exactly about the system lowers the pressure and increases the flow?

The low resistance is from the designed leaks pointed out already. The flow is controlled by the pump.

If I were going to run a 7M at that RPM, I'd loosen up the bearing clearances a bit and run a heavier weight oil too. And do all the other mods (especially the accumulator & -10 lines) you did too Ian ;)

lots of theory on this board which is ok for a forum but bad for advise unless the claims are backed by a tear down for inspection. Me and IJ have already had this discussion and it was the purpose of my 12k teardown post. I wanted to see my actual bearing wear in relation to the type of driving and oil i use. Another important factor was the wear on the thrust washers with all these aftermarket clutches. After speaking with IJ, Sound performances builder, and titans builder. I concluded if you plan to make over 400rwhp and use it then don't follow the tsrm for specs go to the larger end of the scale open up the mains and rods and go up in weight

8300 sustained John ;)

So your decision is based on your unique driving conditions. Would you recommend your setup for people running up to 6500 rpm. This is for an engine that won't see over 500 whp.

SB: Yep this is for my particular combination and use but this is how I now build all 7M's as careful attention to the build yields good idle pressures and no real downside.

After 400rwhp there's a LOT of block/crank deflection and this just doesn't allow for the TRSM clearences without some really funky bearing wear patterns (this alone tells me that tight isn't working as the crank should never touch a bearing in use)

I was seeing Edge wear marks even at a lower rpm when running tight.

oh WOW i am really pissed right now

took my pistons out and such today out of my old race motor that a shop built for me wow i got fuck with broom stick

reson why i am pissed

wanted clvit bareing got changed for clivet got china bare's ( plus there wiped so there fucked rod and main) no spin thank god

arp thought out (nope reused all stock hard were) got charged for arp ):

told them to stick with 6m chank low and be hold 7m crank witch was muchined in way never sean befor very rough on the side of the counter weights and looks to be random heat treating to the crank in random places aka were the juranles are

they did use my borded eyelited banjoe blot for the oil pump

oh yae this motor was put togther in drity place cause my skirts of my pistons are scored not to point of replace but not happy

so this time around doing it my self i do like the thicker oil idea thou and do plan to do 6500 sustained alot for more sution for my bareings

but how far do i go as in chnageing toyota clearances

I don't rev that high, so far 7500, glad you chimed in on this one IJ as I knew you ran larger clearences with the mods to the oil system and heavier oil.

That's exactly what I found with tighter clearences.
