I have right at 4k in just the motor machining, pistons, bearings, coatings, and balanced assembly. I made out like a champ and got a set of Crower rods free from my friend i got the car from. This is not even including the head work. THEN consider fuel upgrades. Another 600-1000 if you do it right and higher if you REALLY do it up. TURBO another grand. I/C ,pipes . This list will go on and on. I had no idea what I was getting into BUT in to far to stop now. $10,000 and still going. But my first build will be right and sound. Guys here make that seem like pocket change. Unless you money is flowing steady for this build you need to focus on a solid stock build with a 57 trim ct. You can still have a snappy quick car with respectable speeds. This is just my opinion for whatever its worth.

Good luck and keep researching. But try to search before you ask.

I second that....

I would just keep it simple because these cars can become money pits. you will be saving for quite sometime to get what you want accomplished.

No kidding on that last one. It's taken me about 3-4 months to save up 1000 for the engine, trans (hopefully), and all the things I need for a 5spd conversion. Then it'll take me another year AT LEAST to save up for a build.

Boy oh boy do I need a second job...

The moeny involved with these cars can be insane. I think the biggest problem is people like to over do it. They want to say away from all the problems the 7m's have, but they end up having 3500 + into their motors.

I would just make a great stock rebuild, and make sure the oiling system is well maintained and done correctly. Also the head gasket should also be worried about as well.

NWS: would you really send your crank off to Australia for that? There are places in Canada that do that work, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to find a place in Canada than to ship it off to Oz. Haha

my stock bottom end handles the sp61 just fine at 15-18 psi. Stock parts have shown no weakness on mine yet (rods and pistons). Ive made the connection that a built motor "should" have something other then a stock ecu controlling it to take advantage of the potential. A standalone may not be needed, but then again neither are the forged rods and pistons considering the limitations.

I'm about to consider the SP61 with stock bottom end. Plenty of other upgrades, have an H3 trim now. Healthy car. Do you know what your power level with the SP is?

To the OP... MONEY PIT!:biglaugh:

It's not just about the "total cost" to build one of these... it's about the STEADY, PERPETUAL DRAIN. When you tackle the Supra 7M, you are signing a MORTGAGE with NO residual value... other than the residual rush you imbibe with each moment on the spool in the six.

The REAL question is... what monthly PAYMENT can you endure for the rest of your life... and how quickly does everything have to "happen" for you?
