Toggle switch for ABS.

I want to mount a switch so I can turn my ABS on and off from inside the car. I was thinking of putting a toggle switch on either the speed sensor on the transmission or the steering angle sensor.

Just putting a simple switch in between any one of the wires to break the connection should be enough to disable the ABS system right?

From my understanding if the ABS system doesnt get a signal from any of its inputs (Speed sensor, wheel speed sensor, steering angle, etc...) then the system disables itself.

If one is familiar with how ABS works and what it does one would have to ask oneself why such a system, especially a 20 year system, would require steering input.

Im familiar with how ABS works. Im not trying to have ABS on all the time.

If its only used for TEMS and ABS why cant I put a toggle switch on it to cut the signal from it and disable the ABS system?

While it may disable the ABS you'll still get a light and store an error code by doing that. I suggest switching the ABS ecu grounds, pins 4 and 14. You can get them both with one wire down in the pax footwell on connector N1, pin 2.

Edit: The above is what my 87 EWD shows. The online one shows different. You'll have to track it down or just do it right at the ECU

I think ABS works well even when racing. If you are skilled enough you can break without ABS engaging.

well yes abs works when racing but the point in which ABS engages is when your tires start to lock up and you begin to loose traction, and when you are loosing traction you're no longer stopping as fast as possible. At which point the ABS pulses the fluid pressure so the wheel can stop/start moving as quickly as possible to cross the threshold of sliding/rolling and thus gaining 'maximum traction'.

So scientifically if your abs is kicking on then you are stopping as fast as possible. But when you factor in older compter systems, and aged braking systems then you begin to question if(/when) you can outstop the abs. when you disable your ABS you can then try to outbrake the ABS system basically.

I am not saying to pull your ABS fuse and have at it by any means, ABS shows its strong points in panic situations, or that dreaded day for ex. when a child steps in front of you and you slam on your brakes only to lock up the tires and slide straight into them.:nono: It was added on cars for many reasons and tested thoroughly, and used today almost standard.

wether or not said individual can outstop the ABS system is undetermined. May I suggest a big brake upgrade:love:

sorry if this post was long/ hard to read/ or understand/ or too simplified for some.
