The good thing would be that you know someday, someone will use something you teach them, and it will save their life.

I feel that way everyday. However, I just keep remembering the horror stories of the SERE dudes that couldn't "get out of role." Best of luck, though!

Congrats Malloy!!!

I did ~10 years in the USMC. Missed it for awhile (okay, I still miss it), but it's great feeling starting the "new" adventure of civilian life... especially when you're used to thing being the way they were for the last x-number of years.

Anyways, thanx for your service and congrats to making it out alive... many of ours friends didn't/won't. Good luck!!

I think the military is a great springboard into many jobs when you have had enough of the service. I think ATI is a good school. (At least everything I've heard is positive, but you really get out what you put in as you have stated.)

BTW< thanks for the service, and protecting our freedom, and way of life.

I've never served in the military, but I grew up in/around it mostly on the airforce side of things, my dad worked for Boeing on many defense contracts world wide. (Middle East for over 10 years, 2+ in Tehran, 8+ in Saudi.) We would have lived in Iran longer, but dumbass Jimmy Carter had to open his mouth, stop paying off the Shite's and the Shaw was forced to leave the country, and so were we. (Really smart of President Carter, especially considering this was smack in the middle of the Cold War, and Iran is a great location on the underside of what was the CCCP.)

Congrats fellow airman. Also good luck in the civilian sector. Congrats DM on starting the crosstrain package. I also am getting out soon after 5 years and 6 months of service. I am be medically boarded for my lower back. I had surgery a year ago and still have constant pain and they fused my spine and sacrum which is your tail bone together. I also have permanent nerve damage. I am going to open my own shop and have family and friends work for me and I will just run the dyno and the small stuff.

DM-So you are actually going to be a SERE instructor? Aren't there two locations for that-one in ME and one in CA?
Nah, I don't think I am going to do SERE. There are MANY locations for that career field, but the big one is probably at Fairchild AB in Washington State. I'm pretty sure that's where the Air Force has their survival training.

Airborne Battle Management is more where it's at for me - I've been working on infrared/television sensors my whole career. This would be my chance to be flight crew and USE those systems instead of repair/replace/align/checking them as a maintainer. Really put the hurt on some "bad guys". You use the joystick, put the crosshairs on 'em, fire the gun.. BOOM! :naughty:
