Greetings,

I have pretty much decided to sell my bone stock, two owner, 91 turbo, auto, 145K miles and buy a Lexus SC.

It's black, and the hood and top of the drivers door has faded to primer. But the rest of the car still looks pretty good.

My question is do you think I would be better off to spend the money to respray these areas, or respray the whole car, or just leave it as is for the new buyer to do as they wish?

Not sure that I could recover a new paintjob money. I kind of hate the idea of a MAACO job too...

Confused...

How much would a paint job run you in your area? You do have a bone stock '91 Supra with relatively low miles. It might be worth painting. If the interior is excellent and it runs without a glitch then I would paint it. If the inside looks/smells like ass, and the engine sounds like a diesel on its last leg then don't bother.
btw why are you selling it?

Well, a top of the line paint would be about 3500
A top of the line MAACO/One-day would be about a 1000
A maaco/oneday spot job would be about $300

Interior is cloth/grey, and quite clean, engine is stock, but I just got a new headgasket, stock as well, but torqued to 75.
Found a 2000 SC400 with 60K miles that is so perfect it's rediculous, and the price is good. It's a 5speed auto, with 290 hp. It's a fricking sweet car.
But some new paint on the supra would make it a pretty nice car too... Plus I'm 56 years old, and I'm liking the luxury of the lexus.. Don't get me wroung, my Supe has been a great car, but I've had dit for 5 years now and it's just getting old to me...

I did that exact same thing. Sold the blue one in my sig. Got me an SC. Still have an SC and now have another Supra.
You'll be back.

Problem is I'm in California and I CAN"T do any mods because of smog, so I'm still at stock HP... So for me, I doubt I come back...

I would just leave it. If you re spray those areas could look Mismatched.

Can black get mis-matched? I suppose it could have a differnt shine or something tho...

Black can most definitely get mismatched. It's insane how many different shades you can have of what seems like a simple color.

I would recommend selling it as is. You probably wont be able to get as much as you put into a nice paintjob.

I got a SC too, but i couldn't get rid of my supra for one, shit i traded a 93 civic shitbox straightup for my sc lol.

In my opinion, a partial paint looks half assed, and the car deserves better. Maacco is garbage, and the car deserves better. a full paint job is what it deserves, but you probably can't make up that much in your sales price. Being a 91 though, maybe you can, but not likely. I'd leave it for the next guy to do.

I'm nearing 50 (not real close yet) myself, and I understand the need for comfort. But, the first time you need to get into traffic, and you just don't have the torque to do it safely, you'll miss the Supra.

290 HP and 300 torqe isn't enough?
