I'm really close to choosing a wheel/tire combo to buy for my supra and I'm not quite sure how wide I should go in the rear. I'm thinking 9.5" with 265s but I dunno...

So post pics of your cars from the rear so I can see the rear wheel width and tell how wide your wheels and tires are. Thanks!

the "265" part of the tire size is the section width, not the actual width of the tire. One tire might be 225 andother 255 and be about the same actual width, just depends on the tire.

I would run maybe 9" wheels up front with a 25mm ish offset and 255 tires mounted on them and maybe a 10.5" in back with a deeper offset...

Here you go: These are 275/35 Falkens on an 18 x 9 rim....the tire width is 11.5". There are no rubbing issues with Ebaich springs and Koni shocks. My rims are a 38mm offset...you can see in the 2nd pic that the rims take the tire right to the edge of the fender well...perfect :icon_bigg

There is some variance between tire makers, but most of that is due to the section high of the tire (section width is measured for the sidewall). The height and hardness of the sidewall will determine the amount of "bulge" the measurement is taken from.

Man yours dont look as wide as the other cars posted here with similar sized tires, well IJ. I know he has 285s and you have 275s, but the pic he provided makes yours look like 235s. You both have 9" wide rims, so I guess my question is why does it seem that way. What kind of falkens do you guys have? Are they both azenis?

Some of it has to do with the angle of the dangle...LOL

Mine are Falken 451GR Betas...I do like the way those 285's look though.

451's here as well JDub!

How do you find straightline traction? (non existant here)

Tire wear is amazing though I'm sure these things are polyurethane!

Heck of a lot better than what I had ;) I have an auto, so they don't break as bad as a manual would...plus it's so friggin hot here, it softens the rubber up. They sure seem to hug the corners well.

from personal experience I wouold stay away from falken gr betas, they are known to be undersized. Thats why your 275's look like 245's.

How do you explain IJ's? They are Falken GR Betas too...
BTW, I'll probably go with a 285 next time around.

I will have to agree with that statement. Although they seem to be great tires(very quiet & smooth) my Falken ST-115 Azenis (275/35's pictured) seem to be very narrow looking for that size. They are intended for drifting, hence the more rounded shoulder profile, I guess for better fender clearances(?)
Sorry photo isn't clearer, taken with cell phone:icon_razz

The first number is sidewall width in millimeters when installed but no load. There will only be variation when you have a taller profile tire, which usually has a narrower tread. Se even though the sidewall is the same, smaller tread, or softer sidewall impact your visual perception.

I have seen the 95 Cobra R rim installed in various pics. I think it looks good. And it is a 17 x 9.

think you could fit 275s on a MKIV NA 9" rear rim?
Perhaps you direct that to MKIV.com

Anybody with ABS had an issue with premature activation or the light on with a taller tire in the rear? In theory, it should be ok. The speed signal will be slower than the rest, but it won't be showing a lockup.

Good luck finding anything in a 275 for the Mk4 NA wheels. I have 245/45/16 on them now and I want to go wider but I can't find anything that fits and isn't a drag radial. Other than that, the NA wheels are pretty light, look good and can be bought quite cheap.
