Ive got that spare motor i posted pics of awhile ago about to go on an engine stand. Ive been trying for about a 2 weeks to get that bolt off using the biggest breaker bar i can find and to no avail. I dont have an impact gun so any tips to help me remove this thing would be nice.

Thanks

engine outside the car+breakerbar = engine turning not bolt

:naughty: I removed the bolt wile my 7M was on the stand. It took a little "american ingenuity" but I got it off with a 1/2" breaker bar, 5' pipe, and the GF to hold things in place so the whole thing didnt fall over:biglaugh:.

do you have a flexplate or flywheel? i used an old flexplate and shoved a bar through the hole and under the block.. engine stand would help as well.. compressor / impact is not the fastest way if you dont have one :p 20$ 3ft breaker bar pwns all.

Alright the main thing that gets these bolts off is a hard punch of force. Put a 1/2 wrachet on there with the correct mm socket take a hammer and hit it, iv have done this twice... and it worked. using breaking bars is slow force, and all they need is a good amount of it quick! Try it and let us know!!!

car in 5th, wheels chocked, 2' breaker bar and an extra nut for power. once you get the slack out of the drivetrain, its all up to you to get it broken loose.

If you don't have an impact gun i'd just open up the cover in between the motor and tranny wedge a flat head into the teeth of the flywheel on the top right and use a torque wrench and breaker bar to remove the bolt.

Thats why an impact wrench works. LOL.

OK you could put the motor on the engine stand with the flywheel or flexplate installed. In the case of the flexplate use a pair of stout vice-grips or that previously suggested screwdriver. In the case of the flywheel use a plastic screwdriver or hammer handle and wedge it in between the flywheel and the block where it will continue to wedge itself tighter when you apply force.

it also helps to read the original post. the engine is sitting on the floor, about to be put on a stand. if the engine was in the car, bumping the starter with a breaker bar on it is my favorite.

to the OP: can you throw the engine in the back of a vehicle and take it to a shop that won't mind taking it off for you? Even if you don't have a truck and hoist, it could be worth it to find somebody that does!

I dunno what engine stands you guys use, but there is no way you could have the flywheel/flexplate mounted to the engine...

Drop the pan and wedge a block of wood to stop the crank from turning...

I made my own SST from a 1.5 x 1.5 x .25 piece of angle iron about 24 in. and two metric cap screws. Notch it to allow deep socket and drill two holes to match the pulley. Mine is slotted bc the Tacoma spacing is different than the Supra. Use cap screws or they'll just bend. Cheep!
