Tips for selling a MKIII?

I'm getting ready to sell my car and I want to make sure that I have as many descriptive pics up as possible. I know how frustrating it can be using the internet as a tool to car shop, as I have seen cars that look great on the computer but then look like ass in person (NOT any of your Supras, I promise--this happened to me many times while shopping for vintage cars) and I really don't want to waste anyone's time or give anyone a false impression, especially if it's a major inconvenience to come by and check it out in person.

If you could, I'd like you to put yourselves in the shoes of a potential buyer. Take a look at my photo gallery and tell me what other shots you'd like to see of the car that would give you a better idea of its overall condition.

I'd really appreciate the comments, guys!

Call me all day at xxx-xxx-xxxx, ask for ____ (that askign part is only necessary unless yout live at home) Don't pass up the chance to own an amazing car!

Heh, I wish that all would fit. This is as much room as AutoTrader leaves me:

"1991 TOYOTA SUPRA, 160K mi, Great mech cond. New cooling system, HG replaced 20k ago, lots of aftermarket parts - $11k in receipts. Gets 22mpg. Lv msg or email for more info, $7,600, 352-208-2993"

Kinda sucks. It makes me want to list it elsewhere just so I can say more, lol...I guess I'm just gonna have to let the pictures do most of the talking.

Thanks again guys for the responses!

EDIT: Here it is in all it's short-worded glory: http://tinyurl.com/yxyz75

EDIT2: I love this pic: Where'd my $11k+ go? *cries*

Thanks for the help and the positive comments guys!

I edited EDIT2 so hopefully that works now. Also added some comments, just for fun. I'm still getting the hang of this whole interweb thing...

Why don't you open a CarDomain page with your car and then you can put as many pics as you want and say whatever you want also. Then put the link to the webpage in the Autotrader ad. Its free, GL.

Have you tried the old school way before the net? Put for sale sign on it. I drove around with a for sale sign on my car and a bunch of people actually wanted to buy ..... but i was not really selling her. There were a couple of people who wanted to give me 3000 and the body was not in the greatest shape.

Tips for selling a MKIII? .................................DON'T

JK...GL with the sale.

Run it through Ebay once with a reserve, and a Buy it Now. It's definitely not free, but it WILL get seen. Problem there is, high dollar Supras are looked at as posible scams

Brilliant idea. My only problem is right now I limit my driving to and from campus. If I need to go anywhere else I take my bike or hitch a ride. I guess that would be a good excuse to go for some last joyrides in her.:icon_bigg

I was thinking of posting up flyers on and around campus, but I'm not sure if that's the right market for it.

You have listed a new HG , You should say if it is metal or not.

Yeah, I had a bunch more to say but autotrader limits the verbage severely. When building your advert on their site, if I check all the boxes like airbag, abs, aircon, etc., there's only enough letters left to add one or two words...I am researching my options to see where else I can post it. Maybe there's enough room for a link...

And it's just a standard composite HG. Since I didn't tear down the block and refinish the HG mating surface on it, I felt that the composite would seal better--Plus I didn't see myself doing more than 10 psi ever on this engine without a complete rebuild.

I've never used cardomain before, I'll have to check it out. I really like Google's Picasa, where I have my pics hosted right now. If cardomain will give me more exposure though, I'll post up there too probably.

Hah, I wish I could keep it and get something more practical, but that's not really an option for me at this point. Sucks because I know I won't get anything near this performance per dollar...

Anyways, any tips on how I can allay fears of an eBay scam? I've been an eBay seller for awhile, and I've close to 50 feedback points now. My main concern with eBay is how to handle the transaction, especially if the buyer is not local.

Anywho, I guess it's just all part of the fun of selling a car.:icon_conf

Thanks for the info and ideas guys!

Your speedometer needle is sitting below 0, which means it won't read accurately. That's a real easy fix, and one I'd consider doing, if someone knows where it's supposed to sit, I don't think it being in the wrong spot would sit too well, but it's hard to say.

Rest of the stuff looks good, nice organized reciept book which is a bonus for sure. If I were you I would show any potential buyers all your pictures if you can, if not, select the ones that showcase it best, along with 1 or max 2 showing your blemishes.

Any potential buyer will expect you to put your best foot forward when selling the car, if all he sees are a bunch of pics of what's wrong with the car, he'll forget about what's right with the car. I know this sounds like you are going to be untruthful about the car, but I don't think you are. When the potential buyer comes to inspect it, he can see what is wrong with it. Don't hide anything, but don't be overly assertive about what's wrong with it.

Good luck with the sale.

the word supra automatically attracts anyone under the age of about 30 so campus fliers wouldnt hurt, also as mentioned before just dri8ving around u might find a pontential buyer again because its a supra and its nice like that

You are getting some great advise here. I couldn't agree more with Jeff Lange. Also, the for sale sign idea is a good one, but, ya, you gotta drive it around more it sounds like. A Supra for sale on a college campus seems like it would attract a lot of attention. Not only is it in front of the right age guys, but many of those may be local people with friends all over your town. Word of mouth off that could just do it.

As for Ebay.......You probably won't do too well with a price like you are asking there. The couple flaws won't help. I've seen really nice looking cars (like yours) sell for around the $3000 range, but also go as high as $6000-8000. You never know. Here's a few ways to spot a scam, try not to do any of this.........

1. "My ebay ask a seller a question link is broken, please e-mail me direct"
If you see this in an auction, report the auction to ebay.

2.Flawless car (usually MKIV) with $20,000 in upgrades....Buy it now for $6000. Too good to be true almost always is.

3."E-mail me before placing your bid" This guy wants to go around ebay with his scam.

A good description detailing the good, and pointing out the major bad will suffice. Smaller problems can be revealed in later communications.

The price you are asking is very possible. But the people willing to pay it are right here among people who know and trust you. Have you listed it in the cars for sale on this site. I don't go there often as I have several already.
