where do you guys set your timing with a late 89 engine or newer? in my hans book it says

1987-1989 10 degrees
1989 on 12 degrees

i have it at 10 degrees. it says that under the hood, but the engine i have is not what was in there. the motor i swaped had round motor mounts so it has to be a late 89+ or newer. the reason i'm asking is because i don't think it pulls at the high rpm like it should. i think it might be too retarded. ha ha ha. seriously though what do you guys run? is this book wrong or what.

sounds strange to me... 10* for low boost is too retarded... Actually 7M runs good at about 20* advance at 14psi on pump... Off boost should be about 30* to get better spool-up and gas mileage...
Looks like I misunderstand something... Couldn't you post ignition timing map, please?

Edit: Aaah... I see... You are talking about initial timing on stock ECU, right?

how about advancing it a degree or two for some more power at higher rpms? has anyone done that. i have done this with other engines and it works fine.

Advancing it will give you more low end not high end.

I believe the TSRM says 10 degree with the car jumped off. What are you mods? Boost level?

The TCCS runs very aggressive timing ...... If you are using a SAFC keep the base timing around 10 or 8. Because when you are at WOT you be in the 20's(+). With the SAFC you are subtracting fuel and as you subtract fuel you will be increasing the already aggressive timing.

Subtracting fuel and increasing timing make more useable power …. But be forewarned you are increasing your chances of detonating!

stock turbo and just about everything else is stock. i run 7psi without mbc hooked up. i might run 10psi when i go to the street legals. i run premium all the time.

so does advancing the base give you more high end or low end?
