!. to lower EGT's, would you retard or advance timing?

2. when you adjust the CPS ( the thing on the turbo side of engine), do you move it clockwise or counter clockwise to retard timing?

i have a timing gun and my understanding is you need to put in the jumper (like checkng codes), and use sparkplug wire #6.

the reson i ask is because my mannifold loves to get red after cruising on the free-way for 20 min.

Cruising on the highway should heat your manifold up. ,same with big hills and beatin on it.

What are your mods...if you've got a lot goin on under the hood 1 degree of timing can change a lot.

You should be a 10 degrees before top dead center.

Check where your at now first. I pull the efi fuse (so the car doesn't start)

I use the amp clamp on the number 1 cylinder.

I don't remeber which direction retards or advance. But a slight movement of the cps and you'll be able to tell.

Honestly, I don't see a problem with a hot manifold after 20 minutes on the highway.

Do you have a wideband?

you'll know it when its advanced or retarded using the light. Its quite sensitive.

advanced timing = lower egt's. I would set it at 8 degrees to start off since your using a safc. If your pulling fuel at a significant rate you will be advancing timing on the top end.

If you find your not pulling that much fuel with the safc, take it back to 10 degrees and watch your egt's to make sure they arent getting to high. KR will make the egt's jump rather quickly as the ecu pulls timing.

ok, so it normal to get red after cruising for awhile. I am @ 10 degrees, and i have a innovate wideband. thanks

what is KR?

so let's say that when i get the safc dailed in, and move it back to 10 degrees if im not pulling to much fuel. And it has high EGT's, what then?

That comforting to know! i am always loosing sleep over it. my A/F at cruise are 14.0- 14.5:1 or right around there. if i go to 80mph then it get's more near 14.0:1

kr is knock retard. ignition timing has a huge affect on egt's as well as the af ratios. you can increase egt's to a point just by loading the car up more (uphill, long run, 5th gear etc.). When your getting kr it should be noticeable on your egt's (quick spike, increase in temp) assuming the af ratio isnt leaning out.

kind of rich, i dont know what your fuel pressure is at but drop it 3-psi (assuming its not to low already) and leave the safc settings alone and try again and see what you get.

general practice is shoot for low to mid 11's for a safe street tune.

The ratios look normal. Drop the fuel a few points and see where it lands you with the wot af ratios, you have room to spare!

LMK how the tunning goes
