timing answer please.

just a quick question. when i adjust the timing on my 1g i have to jumper the diag. block right? aka limp mode. ok its supposed to be -10btdc well it was like -18btdc so i set it to -10. when i remove the jumper from the diag plug should it still read -10 when i shoot it with the light? it was set perfect at -10 jumpered but when i remove the jumper it goes to like -15. am i doing something wrong?:1zhelp:

no, your fine. the ecu has full controll over timeing and it adjusts it how it sees fit. you are only giving the ecu an idea of where to start, sortta. so you set timing when jumpered, and then when you pull your jumper out the ecu takes over and sets the timeing from then on. it will only read -10 when you have it jumpered. or in a situation that the ecu deems it nessisary to have -10deg timeing. but in that situation you will be driving the car and not sitting there with the timing light watching your crank.;)

1g= the dsm kind of 1g?

No. Diagnostic mode.

Limp mode was used for a short period of time, but caused pollution, the one thing it was trying to stop. Limp mode was used when a critical input was lost, so timing and injector duration were set a fixed levels.

Ive always know it as back up spark and fuel.

Nothing wrong with voicing an opinion.

What do you mean back up spark and fuel? You are not supposed to drive the car in diagnostic mode.
