its getting there, make sure you run good gas, 93*, and if you get to advanced, it can detonate, and thats a engine's worst nightmare. sometimes you can also hear 'valve knock' it sounds like a tacking or ticking and is also bad. youll run the risk of getting your intake valves overheated and can deform or break. the hard part is your engine will make its most power right befor this point, but be safe. im around 10-12* advanced and have no problems, hope this helps.

anyone correct me if im wrong

I've been running 15* for 3 years in my 89 N/A, with NO ill effects. The knock sensor will back off the timing if it senses any 'pinging'. Factory is 10* base timing. 5 more degrees gets you more power, and is not gonna 'break' things.

I push it hard, and have NEVER heard a ping, knock, or bla bla b;ahgghfhihyhujijg;iodjgluihphep.

very good

add 6 psi off boost on that and lets see how well your car runs then.

And thank you for bringing up the other point that I was going to address.

That knock sensor, guess what it needs to sense for it to "retard" ignition? The very thing we are trying to AVOID!!!!

My car is set to 15 is there any down side to such high setting.

In a word, yes.

It will be more responsive off boost, but when the cyl pressures get up there, those knock sensors will be gettign a workout, and thats best to be avoided. Back her down to 10-12 and your bearings and hg will thank you.

the truth!!

I swear 95% of you guys looking for cheap horsepower gains should work on a race team just ONCE. In the end you will see they don't go for all out power no. But a balance between all out power AND making sure the motor survives the ENTIRE race. The Entire race for a street car is at a very minimum off 100K+ miles!!

Timing to a point will make a small difference if the fuel allows. The closed loop ignition will not gain very much though.
