Ok so here's the situation: My ct12a's are starting to leak a bit from the oil seals... I recently had the motor swapped from a clip that has been sitting about 4 months and then the engine(non-running in my car) for about 3 months. With that in mind i figured i might be able to recondition the seals with some additive. Well, that isnt working so my next step is to go with a heavy weight oil... Now if that fails i need to start looking at replacement options..

My goal is right around 400hp with room to move up a bit from there comfortably. So the all important question is: What turbo's are going to give me the power range i want while maintaining quick as possible spool for the turbo size. Something that will still perform respectably while moderately boosted for daily driving.. The suggestion that seems to always shine through is gt35r... Any other suggestions? Other manufacturers? Ball bearing or thrust.... Depending on severity of ct12a's condition i may need to go with the cheaper 360 thrust so i can avoid cheaping out of supporting mods.

How would going single compare to having a set of ct12a's rebuilt and upgraded? Power and price wise? I remember reading somewhere that upgrading ct12a's while rebuilding is pricey.

Anywayzz.. with turbo suggestions and hp goals in mind what kind of air/fuel management can i get away with?

Thank for the help!

REgards,
Tyson

If you want 400 HP with some room to grow, i would personally run the CT26 kit from Driftmotion with either a 57 or 60 trim. at 10lbs on a 57 trim, the 1j put out 390ish horse, with twin like spool and response.

Using a heavier weight oil is a band-aid solution to your leak. It will decrease the oil flow through the engine, decreasing cooling and lubrication. Start-up will cause more wear on parts. You don't want to hurt your engine just to temporarly fix a leak do you?

If you want 400rwhp, I agree with foreverpsycotic. If you are giong higher in the future then start with you end goal in mind. GT35r sounds like the way to go.
Trust me, 400 get slow really fast. OH and don't take shortcuts, get the right parts for your build from the get-go if you can afford them.

yea im just going the 60-1 route to get rid of the smoking twins. i dont want to go for my old 650-700whp goal cause im not spending 2500 on a damn clutch.

Drew im gonna be placing in order for a 1J manifold with you in a week or so

what brand is this $2500 clutch? For that price you can almost buy another 1J, 2j or better turbo kit. I agreed with reaper, I think 400 daily driver whp should be fun and won't cost you an arm and leg to get. I may go the same route and get a t04s turbo when my twins go.

ats is what I'm looking at..

it suits my goals though.. 2jz, 71mm turbo, cams... 750whp is my goal :) looking for 10s in 'street trim' sorta (drag radials at least, but might run 295/35/18 bfg drs all the time??, maybe straigh pump, but probably pump + meth at like 23-24 psi for ~ 600whp) MAYBE a 9 (doubtfully I can't drive that good) with slicks and skinnys c16 and 30-35 psi..

My real power goal is 130 or higher mph traps in street trim.. so i can play with (stock) liter bikes ;)

yeah sounds like it can take the punishment alright. but i rather spend the money on good turbo kit and get like $500-600 stage 3 clutch like spec or southbend good for 400-500hp and still have some $$ left for MILK for your upcoming baby... :icon_razz
