What are these worth Daryl? AND, do they have a DR coming out soon, or did you check on that yet?

Duane

I sent my buddy to OK Tire Langley and he picked up a set of the R1-R's for $272.xx per corner. 245/45R17's I think. As always, the bigger your wheel, the more rubber becomes worth. My 225/50R16's list at $460 each, so your getting alot of tire for you buck. And judgeing from the winter storage instructions, their rubber is made up of something VERY similar to that of an R888.

As for drag radials, well..... Ill call you

LMK! When do you think they will have any, if they do make them?

Tire Rack's reviews from my experience have been pretty spot on, I recommend browsing their site a bit; it's proven to be very helpful for my tire buying decisions.

I'll vouch for these as well, only problem being they don't come in a wide enough footprint for the rear. :(

Yeah, if I remember correctly, the widest they go in 17" is 255/40. If someone has 18's, they go up to 275's.

I wish they'd make a 275/40/r17. :(

Me too. I've got them on the front already, and my Falcons on the rear are *done*. I didn't realize they only went to 255 until a month after I mounted the fronts. :(

I'm hoping they'll expand the offering by springtime when I pull off the snowies.

The tires on your car have a nice pattern to them as well Dave. No big deal, 255 is not bad, but with your NEW found power, a 275 may be better. :)

Really, what it comes down to is we need more information.

What's more important to you:
- Tire longevity
- Dry or wet performance
- straight line traction
- cornering traction
- how much power are you trying to stick to the asphalt?

- longevity... i really dont care, i drive it only twice a week
- both
- yes on line traction
- and yes on cornering traction
- 500hp is the power i want to stick to the asphalt

kinda late on the reply being working to much lolz

Pretty sure that stock tire size on the Mk4 rims is a 255, so I'd be really surprised if they can't put a 275 on there. Based on your answers a couple posts up:

- Find something with a really low durometer - 200 or less would be my recommendation. Won't last for shit, but it'll stick like napalm on exposed skin.
- Going to have to avoid the near slicks, then. Something with deep grooves like the Dunlop Dierrezza's mentioned above. Otherwise any water on the road just makes for hydroplaning.
- Same goes for drag radials - they are designed to go fast in a straight line, they get awfully wobbly on turns.

Bottom line, finding something that will stick 500hp to the ground isn't going to be easy - and worse yet, you can likely toss out all the advice in previous posts, as most of the folks on here won't be at the 500hp mark, and tires that work great for 300hp do not necessarily work worth a damn with another 200 on top.

Yes, you can go with 275/40/17 on your Mk4 TT's. That's what I run all around during the summer. The 9.5" wheel up front makes for an increased turning circle, and I gotta be careful of oversteer, since I can't counter very much before the wheel rubs, but I haven't really run into any serious problems with this setup.

For what it's worth, it all depends on your budget. I'm running Nitto 555's all around, they do really good for the price ($118/ea on discounttiredirect.com), but if you're looking for even more grip, I'd suggest Goodyear Eagle F1 Gs-D3. I had a set of those on a Miata, and they would NOT let go in the turns, and they were only 205's...

A TON of good info in this thread, really good points on all fronts including size, wear, stickyness, and aesthetics.

However, I must add; Am I the only one who finds it strange that someone with the username Falken wants to know what tires are good? :momaru:

makes me wonder if i can get 275/40/17 on my rear mk4 tt wheels...

I have a pair of 315/40/17 Michelin Pilots on my TT rims as we speak. You shouldn't have any problems fitting 275's back there..

How the hell??? At the most you can't fit larger than a 285 on the rear of the MKIII without modification. How are you able to fit 315's? Did you cut and pull the fenders?

As for the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's, I have a set of 275/40-17's on the rear of my Supra and they stuck pretty damn good at 347 RWHP. I'll see how well they do at 500 shortly. They're rated at 280 treadwear btw.

I tried finding a pic since I'm positive I took one, but no luck. I didn't think tires that wide would fit either, but I actually found them on a wrecked MKIII in the junk yard. They mounted up just fine on my ride. I have the car lowered with Tokico II's and Eibachs. No rolled fenders. There's next to no room between the rear tires and shock. Maybe you could squeeze a credit card in there, but they do not rub under normal driving. Tires will rub on the shocks when I jack my car up. So basically if you don't want them to rub, you can't drive with anyone heavy in the back and you have to be careful if you hit a dip to fast.

LOL. So in reality the don't fit unless you have stiff coilovers and no passengers along with smooth roads right?

Pretty much; yeah :biglaugh:

They look freakin wicked from behind though. Like a Porche or a vette. I'm still searching for the pics I took.

No, you're not the only one that finds that a bit funny, although I'll admit that I hadn't noticed it...

You'll have to post up in here how well those do for you. I wouldn't mind another set, but if they're no better than the Nittos I have on there now, I can't really justify spending another $1000 when I could get something of equal quality for <$500...

I would LOVE to see those pictures, I always wanted to know how something like that would look on our cars. I bet the mud guards looked pretty ridiculous at that point, huh?
