i'm movin' out to school in pennsylvania on the 18th. i need to make sure my car is in good shape for the drive there and so i don't have problems when starting school.
Here's my list that i need to get done before i leave.

-Waterpump gasket leaks(im not 100% on that yet but i can see coolant dripping from the seal...but should i just get a whole new water pump? i dont have any record of it being replaced and i got 170,000)

-Suspension Install(got 4new shocks and springs that need replacin')

-Change the Auto Tranny Fluid(can i use any automatic tranny fluid on this or is there different ones?)

-Change Fuel Filter(bought it, just gotta change it)

-Change Spark Plugs(they haven't been replaced i don't know how long. check out the picture..i took one out.)

anything else you guys think i should check?
thanks.

yep straight out. covered in oil. why is that?
If there is oil in the spark plug galley as well, then it might just be the valve cover leaking. I had the exact same looking spark plugs on cylinders #5 and #6, and both spark plug wells were also full of oil. The plugs came out dripping with oil because they were sitting in it. :)

Hopefully it's as simple as replacing the valve cover gaskets and torquing the covers down better (I would recommend replacing the stock screws with 10mm hex bolts).

well the valve cover gasket was leaking a little bit, that that was more of the back of the engine, so i dunno if it woulda reached all the way to the front. i'll see what the other ones look like after i pull them all out.

yeah those valve cover screws do suck, im gonna try taking your advice. i dont think that gasket is bad, i just think its loose. my dad said he replaced the gasket some time ago when he used to drive the car..looks like someone did a great job

also. bigger question.
how long does it take to replace the water pump and how hard is it. what do i have to remove..do i need any special tools?
please answer these questions for me.
thanks.

I got the Felpro gaskets at a local auto store (Murray's here in MI). You usually will have to wait a day or two since places like Autozone generally don't keep it in stock.

Also grab some RTV while you're there. I believe the TSRM recommends using it near the cam gears. And, although some find it unnecessary, I like to coat the entire cylinder head top with a thin layer to help the gasket seal better.
