I just used the long belt as a strap wrench by looping it around the crank pulley, folding one part of the belt under the loop and wrap the remaining belt around the ac pulley. I did this with the old belt to remove and install the pulley bolt.
I'll post pics later if anyone is confused.

I had an extra alternator belt I cut it and wrapped it around it, then I just kind of put it around the sway bar and held it while I torqued it down.

I use the rope trick,
and it won't mar up the crank pulley.
But like IJ says, make sure your on the compression stroke, with valves close.

If I where doing that id use a strap wrench with a long snipe on it. Get a friend to hold it, while you torq that baby down. wouldnt mark or damaged the pully either. I use my strap wrench to remove snowmobile clutches that have been spun on the crank and require like 220ft/lbs of torque to pop it off.

I like the screw driver on the ring gear metrhod...worked for me..do a risk and effort involved assestment in getting it torqued .

Any ways do you have a wrench that goes up to 195.

If you're going to do that make sure it's coming up on the compression stroke so all the valves are closed or they WILL bend :(

I wish this type reply would have come as quick as yours did when this advise was given to me. I'm having a long drawn out battle trying to get flywheel bolts out with locktite. I've tried everything suggested, and have rounded out 3 12-point sockets and the two bolts. I just bought a torch for heat, but have to find a way to turn the rounded bolts once the heat takes effect.

As for the rope trick, a spool of clothesline rope will do the job just fine. It just takes a while to get it in there. It doesn't just drop in as you read it. I used long needle nose pliers to force in 2-3 inches at a time. I guess I'll find out once I get the tranny back in what stroke I was on, because I didn't know about that until it was too late.

I borrowed my torque wrench from O'Reiley's. They make you pay a deposit, but refund it when you bring it back. I broke my pulley bolt loose trying to use it to hold the motor for my flywheel bolts.

for anyone reading this, if your upper timing cover is off, you know your approaching tdc (with the valves closed ie compression stroke) on the number 1 cyl when the timing marks on the cams are approaching straight up.
