Raced a new GTI yesterday and was neck and neck with him. Not sure what mods he had but I was surprised that the race was that close....I guess they are faster than I had thought. I have an 89 turbo, stock turbo, spearco ic, lexus afm, 550's, 3" dp and exhaust, hks intake and bov, boost set to 15 psi.

I thought I would win for sure but I guess I got a little bit ahead of myself.

the new GTI are pretty fast considering there small, my friend owed 1 of every model and he said the 1.8T GTI has more balls then his old VR6, with my car at 10psi and 60trim i couldnt get away he would be right with me =(, but now he has a R32 GOLF and its hella fast and i dont have a chance unless i up my boost.

but yeah dont under estimate GTI's in BC we have a few nicely modded one here and they look completely stock =S.

but look on the bright side you didn't LOSE!!!

After I add a 57 trim, walbro, and afpr, I hope to have better results. But yes, on the bright side I didn't lose...haha

R32s are slower than dogshit, i destroyed one from a 60 roll with nothing but an exhaust, k&n, and my new clutch setup. He accordingly had an exhaust. It was quite embarassing for VDUUUb to say the least IMO!

I havn't driven a new GTI turbo but I've driven a few VR6s and they are fun. Wonder what a VR6 would be like with a turbo?

Yea my friend has an '07 GTI and had to take it back to the dealership to fix a sensor and they were going to have it for the day, so they gave him an R32. He said it wasn't as fast as his GTI but the suspension was great.

My friend has a GTI 1.8T full exhaust, APR tuned ECU, CAI, and FMIC running 22psi and I stayed even with him in my 4G63 Laser with just intake, open DP and 18psi. The 1.8T's can't hold that much boost though, it drops down to 10psi by redline (and that's according to a few GTI owners, including a VW shop owner). A Supra should walk any stock(ish) turbo 1.8T or VR6 with that said.

From what I understand, the way VW does it with turbo engines is from the factory they have the whole engine pretty much set up for low end and not peak power.

My buddy owned an old Jetta 1.8 turbo that he dynoed with like 150 hp with an exhaust iirc. It had good pickup I suppose but the high end just wasn't there.

My buddy has a jetta 1.8t that has intake, full 3", fmic, and REVO tuned to something like 22psi on his K03 turbo. Yeah stupid because the motor just eats the boost up in this setup.

Well we raced from a 40ish roll and I had him by 3+ cars by 110 (didn't really look back), hitting fuel cut into 3rd and 4th. This was on 12psi stock ct, intake, exhaust.
He was pretty upset and I was amazed that it happened knowing how slow my car is. ;)

Also got a buddy with an 04 GLI and we did a quick 2nd gear pull from ~40. I had about a car on him by redline so let out as traffic was thick ahead.

Good tie. Those little things can be quick. A few more mods and you'll be looking for bigger fish :)
