I recently acquired a new ticking sound coming from my engine. Its located in the front. No smoke. Im thinking something major but could it be a waterpump or powersteering?

Thanks

Could be stock injectors, but if you are just now noticing it, it's probably something else. The stock injectors are noisy though, listen to that side of the engine when it's idling. If it isn't there, listen around the back part of your exhaust manifold, blip the throttle body and see if a little puff of smoke comes out. If not there, listen as close as possible to the top of the head (under the valve covers), try not to get burned. Take off the oil cap and listen through there, it may help.

I'm guessing either: 1. stock injectors making the noise. 2. exhaust manifold studs are working loose and causing a small/large exhaust leak. or 3. your valves need to be reshimmed.

Don - you checked the crank pulley bolt first of all? I'd bet on that being loose!

I don't think I have the right tools to check it - Is it that HUGE bolt coming from the crank? (Yes, I know I'm a n00b). Is that car still safe to drive, or should I leave it sitting until I can invest in a decent enough tool kit.

I have a ticking noise that happens at idle and gets faster with throttle application. I also have a feul management problem. The injectors are new stock replacements, but the head was redone before I got the car. If someone mixed the valve shims up, could that cause a feul management prob? I know that it can cause the ticking sound, but am unsure about anything else. this car has made this sound since i bought it a couple months ago. currently i am checking the afm, coolant sensor, waterpump, timing belt and tensioner, and the crank pulley. Is there anything else I should check?

My car makes this noise also! It has ever since I bought the car a month ago. I just figured it was an exhausts leak, but now yall got me scared it is something else. Is it hard to check your lifter shims? I am going to go over to dirtlords this weekend after I get back from picking up my other supra. I might ask if he can help me. I have got so many little things, I hope they dont add up to a big problem. I have no other way to get to work, so I gotta drive my car.
