Hi guys i wanted to know if this has ever been done to the Supra cause i know guys out there that has done this mod on other vehicles such as evo's and Wrx's using a external wastegate on the stock manifold and condeming the actuator. Please give me some info on this and your opinions. Thanks and dont bash me for not going Full T4:icon_razz

That would mean you have to have an external wastegate welded to the stock manifold.... right? Pointless considering it would be easier to buy a T3/T4 tubular manifold that is built for an external gate.

Yeah pointless, considering the amount of modifications you ll have to do. Whats are your mods and plans for your car? Is there a problem with the stock one? I have made 432 rwhp with a ct26- 60 trim.

what mods would i have to do other than weld on the flange to the stock manifold position the dump tube and take off the vaccum on the stock actuator? I have an upgraded CT26-57 Trim HKS Hi Power Exhaust, Down Pipe, Cat Replacement Pipe, Lipp Turbo Elbow, Aeromotive FPR, 2JZ Twin turbo Fuel Pump,HKS PFC F-con (tuned for stock 440cc Injectors), Spearco Front Mount Intercooler with Hard Pipes running 14psi. The reason i wana do this is because of my boost tappering at high rpm and also i love the sound of a wastegate. Wouldn't running a wastegate with a 1.0 Bar springbe better? i have a spare manifold to do the job on so i was just wondering?

If all you want is the sound of a wastegate, get a full 3" BIC open dumb divorced down pipe (mouthful, eh?).

Honestly, it would be easier to go full T4. Or if you're that dead set on it, there are CT26 to T3 adapters with a port for an external 2 bolt wastegate. You can get that with a T3/T4 or a straight T3. But honestly you'll be shooting yourself in the foot later if you want to go full T4 with tubular manifold later because you'll have spent the money twice...

Nah menn buying another downpipe is outa the question i just bought that Lipp Elbow for close to 300usd am not junking that whats so hard bout this since i have a spare stock manifold? going T4 is not in the picture right now and will not be soon so what ideas do you guys have?

going to look like shit but there are a few pictures of it being done. Search "surveyor" (spends more time on SF). He used an external gate through the internal flapper hole. Seems to work for him.

i havent read it all yet, but i just got quoted by a shop near me to do this for only 50 bucks... sounds like a good fucking deal to me.

weld stock wastegate shut
drill hole in stock manifold for external gate
weld TiAL flange to the stock manifold

then all i have to do is put it on and have a dump tube made. and you cannot deny that this wont have better gains than a divorced downpipe. why? well for one its bigger, and it can hold closed more solidly till max boost then open and have no boost creep. not to mention divorced downipies leak like hell. no leaking this way.

Where are they going to drill the hole?
The wastgate is a system. An external gate does not mean no creep. How do you know the location and angle of the hole will be sufficient to avoid creep?

I'd spend more time searching for a WG actuator and bracket that will fit on the ct-26. Other wise save your $$ and go with a true t4 or a t4 mani with a t3/t4 adapter.

Might have been an older one?

SP still has their bolt-on SP61 for the MK3, but it's internally wastegated

they offered some with a different stlye hot side. The downpipe bolted to the turbo with 5 bolts IIRC and had a flat mating surface with a hole for the waste gate. From the pics I've seen, I dont see how it works any better then an internal gate. My sp61 has an internal gate, guess its considered the TRUE bolt on version. The other one is not, at least the downpipe is not pnp

^ im sorry what do you mean? im saying the wastegate is directly on the manifold and not on the turbo at all, and the wastegate on the turbo is welded shut.

as long as its in the center close to the turbo or in a place on similiar external gate manifolds i dont see a problem. and this HAS been done on the ct26 manifold before

I get that. How do you know that the design of the fabbed up wastegate tube will work any better then an internal gate?

why dont we see more stock mani's that have been modded for external gates? Just because it has been done, doesn't make it effective or better.

It hasnt been done a lot because a typical mk3 owner is on the stock manifold for one reason, to save money.

But yeah its been done in the subaru, evo, srt4 etc world for ages and has insanely good results.

Now i cannot do it myself because i dont have a stock manifold anyway
