Thrust Bearing Install

Hey guys,

I recently did a clutch change on my 90' 7MGTE Supra, and I thought I'd installed the thrust bearing correctly. How ever, upon reassemble, it seems the clutch isnt clearing properly, its difficult to engage 1st without mucking about, and reverse is always a healthy crunch if at all. Tough coming down the gears too. What I wanted to know before I take the whole thing apart again, which I really cant be assed doin, is can you install the thrust bearing wrongly so that it could do the effects im describing?.

the thrush bearing is not your problem, since it will only fit one way if i recall correctly. I have had problems with the gears after clutch changes before though, and it always turned out to be hydraulics. Did you bleed your system well? If so, you might want to rebuild/ replace your slave cylinder and if that doesn't help, rebuild or replace your master cylinder.

Well, lol I didnt bleed my system, I just didnt think it would make much of a difference as I just took the push rod out. The biting point on the pedal seems normal too, maybe its just a naff clutch?. It worked fine before I changed it too,bar the slipping clutch obviously.

Ill give it a bleed, and see what comes about. Cheers for the info.

It sounds to me like it isn't fully disenguaging. It worked fine before the install because the clutch/ pressure plate were worn, thus, the master cylinder and slave cylinder didn't have to work as hard to disenguage the clutch.

clutch plate may be the wrong way round, I did it the first time I did the clutch,and had very similar symptoms

which way should the disk be facing, towards the engine, or the trans?

Isnt it impossible to install the disc incorrectly as it has a bulge on one side?. where the gearbox goes through, the bulge touches the flywheel if you put it in the wrong way round.

It will go in, and everything tightens up ok, but it wont fully disengage,

looking at this, the boss on the plate faces the gearbox
