Throw out bearing kaboom

For the last week, I have been hearing a "click" when pressing the clutch pedal. Regardless of gear selection, vehicle speed, or engine rpm, the noise occurs halfway down the clutch pedal travel. The click never happens on release. Today, the throw out bearing grenaded.

I have a Centerforce dual-friction pressure plate/ friction disk. I replaced the throw out bearing at the same time as the clutch kit. I also replaced the master and slave cylinders, and any pressure line that looked suspicious.

My questions are: Will the factory Toyota throw out bearing work with my Centerforce? Also, why the hell would a throw out bearing explode like this? The entire clutch system only has about 6,000 miles on it, and the car has not been raced...yet.

Thanks in advance.

I'll be taking it to my garage tomorrow to yank the tranny out. I'll be double checking the installation. I fear I may have just suffered your same problem. I need the car back on the road by Thursday, so if the Toyota throw out bearing will work, in it goes. I forgot to mention that the car underwent a two year rebuild soon after installing the Centerforce. I wonder if rust build up or other corrosion occured?

Considering that the Centerforce pressure plate is probably just a re-badged Toyota unit, or a Toyota unit with upgraded springs, I see no reason that a Toyota TOB wouldn't work.

Rebadged Toyota unit?! Well, relieved and somewhat dissappointed at the same time... At least it will be easy to get the part. Thanks.

Yep, bad install...

More than likely the bearing itself is fine, but what usually happens is the snap ring spins machining off the lip that holds it on the hub. You'll have to replace the hub in that case...

I bought everything new from the dealer, and pay CAREFUL attention to the assembly order in the TSRM (if it's loose, it's wrong)

For anyone still reading this thread, it was the release hub, exactly as mentioned above. The only part I had not already replaced.:3d_frown: Thanks for the help

Buy all new parts from the dealer and assemble it EXACTLY as the TSRM states or it will happen again...

Order and orientation of the parts is critical...

I just changed that.. and all the shims for the hub, including snap rings. Changed no less than 2 months ago actually.

And mine sounds more like one of those automatic can openers. Only when you leave it in neutral with the clutch pedal out.

Mine does the same thing. I installed my own tranny/clutch and was afraid something was terribly wrong, lol.

I have been reassured by multiple people that I shouldn't worry and that it's hardly even audible. Here I am two years later and all is well...
