So my supra does not have abnormal throttle response or anything. But the pedal feel could be better. Yesterday I drove my friends 02 or 04 accord and I had to adjust to how light that pedal was, or this sr20det'd s13 that I drove a while back, or an acura legend which was not as great as the past two obviously, but still better than the supra and it is similar in specs, great light throttle response/feel. Just so much better from a stop (as far as pedal pressure)..

I want to know if its possible to clean or replace something that would make the supras throttle pedal feel better?

I read something about loosening the afm screw or something a while back, but a quick google said its only for pre 87?

Thanks.

Stop posting and start reading.
Seriously.

Well thanks for the useful reply..

I only have one other post here...

And I did read/search before I posted.. I looked for "throttle response" and "pedal feel" on here and supraforums.

You should start reading if you ever think this car will feel like an Accord or 240.

lol, again with the reading. Maybe you should read, where did I say I want it to feel like an accord or a 240, yes they are both 4 bangers, but thats irrellevant.

My question was is there a way to make the throttle not feel so heavy and more responsive.

Basically you did.

It's a heavy ass car what do you expect?
Then you say adjusting the AFM, again you aren't reading. Adjusting the AFM WILL NOT increase throttle response.

AFM = Throttle linkage?

Thanks. Still not sure what exactly you're trying to say, but I will go look at the throttle linkage and see if it has slack.

The supra is heavier than those cars.. but I have driven heavy cars with a better pedal feel. (1992 Acura Legend for example)

As far as the AFM thing, I just had that in my memory from reading something a while back, and like I said, I googled it and turns out can't be done past 87.. ( http://www.geocities.com/motorCity/7177/toyafmmod.html )

I guess everyone just stops reading where they want to and ignores my main question.

Remove the restrictions in your intake system. It's a turbo car. Turbo cars have turbo lad ;) (shitty power until boost). Filter, hardpipes, IC, full 3" or larger exhaust. Post back about throttle response after that ;).

Reduce the rotating mass if you want better pedal feel, start at the flywheel.

is it bone stock??
if so. thats why throttle response is diff. to the other cars and its 19+ yrs old

Do you have a service manual? Are you complaining about actual throttle response or just how hard it is to push the pedal? Your original post seems to indicate the second.

Since the factory throttle in a MK3 turbo supra has a cable attached to a swivel, attached to a rod that turns the device attached to the trottle plate to open it, there are 3 swiveling points at which the direction of the motion changes, all of these add slack to the system. The average honda throttle cable is connected directly to the throttle. Since the honda cable has only the slack within the sleeve to take up before actuating the throttle by pulling it, it does so relatively immediately. The supra must pull up the same slack in the sleeve, but also pull the swivel around until the rod begins to move, which in turn pushes the device on the throttle which moves in a slow arch as it moves the throttle open. All this slack and wasted motion + 8.4:1 compression + turbo lag + 3600 lbs, will give you a stiff pedal and a feeling of slow response. If you want to make it better, you can lube all the swiveling points in the system. If you want most of the sluggishness gone, fabricate a way to mount the throttle body at roughly the end of the 3000 pipe and tie a cable directly to the throttle like honda does where the swivel should be. That will only solve the way the pedal FEELS....not how fast the car is.

It would improve throttle control which could be more advantageous in autocross or drifting than in drag racing.
