thread lock on arp studs?

You can use thread sealer on the stud threads that go into the block...I would use ARP moly lube on the nut side. You will need to chase the block holes to accommodate the extra length of the studs. Studs screw into the block finger tight. Use the ARP torque spec following the TSRM pattern when you torque the nuts down...I use 15ft/lbs per pass.

Pay attention to #1...that is what sets proper preload ;)

^^^ I'm with you, but is is allowed. The only good reason to do so is a hairline crack that may penetrate the water jacket.

That or motor oil on the block side to make screwing them in easier. Like I said, the block threads need to be chased and all debris removed from the hole...the threads need to be very clean.

i read that article jdub thanks...what exactly is chasing ? is it rethreading with the same size tap to ensure everything got out or am i completely off ?

That is basically correct, you can use a bottom tap to straighten/clean the threads. In the case of studs, it reconditions the threads at the bottom where the stock head bolts never reached, but the studs will. Be careful and use a good tap.

i should be fine with the threads because the motor had studs from the previous owner ...so why am i doing another hg job you ask ???HE LOST A STUD AND DECIDED TO USE 15 STUDS AND ONE HEADBOLT guess where it blew

No but seriously, the previous owner i'm assuming wanted to do a headgasket twice. :slap:

the best part of the story is he gave me a box of extra parts like every supra owner has so while i was doing the hg i decided to clean out the box and organize everything and guesss what i found on the bottom of the box under a box flap...the stud!
