When I changed my pump I didn't need to remove the rear half of the housing. I just took the front off and changed it. I didn't buy a whole pump "unit" from toyota.

Are you saying when you converted from hydro-pump, you just changed the front piece not the whole unit?

If so PM ME! I need to know this and where you got the parts to update my JZ thread!

JZ?

Coolant in the alternator doesn't look like a great design

Better than coolant in the oil ;)

Yes, JZ

Coolant in the alternator is done by BMW. They have it on their 7 Series. We did a rebuild on one and had the alternator rebuilt while it was out as its a pain to pull in the car.
Yes, JZ. Dylan... I'd give you a hi-five if you were closer haha. :p

Andy, does BMW do that on purpose for some strange reason?

Let's say you were running entirely water in your coolant system. And it froze overnight. Could this happen?
Could freeze even if you DO have coolant. Say you don't have *enough* coolant... I've seen it happen. ;)

Well, i went with toyota red for my swap >_>

You are smart. There is a thread showing why but honestly, I am too lazy to dig it up for the OP. Just remember, the design was meant for red, why be cheap and use other coolant.

I've read quite a bit on Toyota Red and have come to the consensus that it doesn't really matter anymore, as most silicate based coolants use low levels of the stuff anyways. It's akin to arguing various oils.

JetJock echoes about the same after recommending a cheaper alternative to Red: http://www.supramania.com/forums/sh...pink-coolant&p=1507403&viewfull=1#post1507403

If the car already has Red, I'd keep it that way because it's still a better formulation. But with Red at ~$30 per gallon, I'll keep using the Prestone in mine.

I also keep reading that the Red was designed specifically for Aluminum block motors anyways.

My 1994 Camry came with old green antifreeze from the factory.

"I would be willing to bet that the factory fill coolant in your 1994 Camry was green Japanese coolant made by CCI (the Japanese company that makes nearly all of the OEM coolants for Japanese manufacturers). CCI has a US subsidiary in Illinois named Intac.

At any rate, the chemistry of 1994 vintage CCI coolant is much closer to modern HOAT coolants (according to the MSDS sheets I have read) than it is to traditional North American green coolant, which is anathema to Japanese automotive engineers because it has the wrong pH for aluminum engine blocks and it is full of abrasive silicates.

Don't confuse Japanese OEM coolant with traditional North American coolant merely because it happens to be green."

more interesting info ^.. that's probably why my 1J had Green in it when it was received. This thread also states that the factory Camry owner's manual says to only use 'Ethylene Glycol' based coolant.

another:
I just got back from the store and normal Prestone (the stuff that you mix for $9 gallon) has no silicates either.

Coolant is not coolant... Yes the red is better.

Coolant will be coolant as long as they both function without a noticeable difference. I don't care what anyone says. Preston and Toyota red both work. Red is probably a better base but who cares. Be practical. I use the cheapest antifreeze I can find which is the store brand. No problems on my end.

Keep thinking that.

I guess the red gives you extra hp. Haha why don't you go write up a thread on it. Ricer.

Andy Andy Andy...you'll always be second best. So I hear your waiting on injectors now? Lol
