Trouble (if you can call it that) is that I'm fairly skinny. It's difficult to conceal much of anything on me without wearing a jacket. I'll find something eventually, but for now the 1911 suits the need.
Ima pretty skinny guy myself. I carry iwb as it hides it much better but can get uncomfortable at times. My issue is i will have to buy shirts left and right as they tend to shrink after a few washes and ima always tugging down on the shirts to make sure the firearm doesn't show.
Abe, i looked into that type of holster, and tried a rudimentary test to see if the idea would work for me, but trying to get a gun that's nearly an inch wide out from between my body and the pants seemed like it would be rather difficult. Either I wear fairly baggy pants and they don't stay up, or I have to tug at an IWB holster until it comes out. Seems neither graceful nor a great idea, on the surface. How do you get around that?
It can be a bit difficult to carry iwb. I am a 32 inch waist but wear a 34 inch waist with a belt. I make sure the belt is tight enough to hold my pants up but not to tight that I can't unholster my firearm. Also I've been using a cloth holster (the ones you can buy from walmart or academy sports and outdoors), when I first bought it it was a tight fit for my Beretta. But after using the holster for a year my beretta actually draws pretty easily. I use to use the versacarry before I added the compensator. And the awesome thing about this company is they are based right here in texas.
My father carries owb and I find no matter what he wears you can still see a bulge from his firearm. He carries a small 357 kimber revolver. This thing has a 2 inch barrel and looks like a baby next to my Beretta. My older brother also carries a xd 45 iwb. And you can't even tell that my older brother and i even carries. No imprinting at all. But as i said before iwb can get uncomfortable from time to time.
I carry a full frame 1911 also, I'm pretty day thin too, 195 @ 6'4. I carry it in a Crossbreed super tuck, IWB @ 4oclock. Super comfortable, and as long as you get a proper belt to hold the weight, it's easy to carry and conceal.
Hmm, my belt is always on the smallest hole, since I didn't think beyond, "hey this fits on the last hole, it'll work," rather than buying a belt I was in the middle hole on... amusing way of saying I could easily expand on the belt front. However, it's a fairly substantial leather stud belt, around 2" tall and probably a solid 1/2" thick, but I'm sure most holsters would work with it.
The thing I don't understand is how in the hell you would carry IWB and drive? Comfort be damned, I don't even like driving very far with a wallet or phone in any of my pockets...
Similar build, about 5'8" and 130 lbs. Pretty sure I might be a bird, with hollow bones... Anyway, can you explain the 4oclock thing? As in, straight ahead of you is 12 oclock, 4oclock would be roughly behind your right hip? Or am I missing something?
Again, how would you drive with that 1911 sitting there? I mean, walking around would be easy enough, but that can't be comfortable sitting on a 3lb chunk of metal...
Yep, front middle is 12oclock, and it just goes around you. 4oclock is a little after my right hip, it's very comfortable there. As for in the car, it comes out and goes into the holster between the center console and driver seat. You really don't want to be driving around with it on you anyways, as if someone comes up to car jack you, your not going to be able to access your firearm, with it being out and right next to your right or left hand (if you stick it in the door side), you've got basically instant access.
Trying living in my shoes. Don't ask me why I do it I just do it. I carry my wallet, phone, three extra mags, my total 8 inch Beretta, my 4 inch blade fixed knife, and my abundance amount of keys on a daily bases. And yes driving with all that is a bit annoying and a pain in my hip.
With all that my watch, hat, and clothes on I'm carrying well around 15 to 20 lbs extra
Speaking of firearms i also have a dpms ar10, io ak47, and a century arms c93.
Word of advice, never buy the century arms c93. Full pos's, never rejects casing properly, double feeds constantly. It was a new gun. I think they screwed up on the recoil spring. Seems tight as hell to me.

Thanks for the explanation. Not terribly worried about being car-jacked where I live (there's more guns than people here, no joke), but quick access is definitely a good deterrent. Door pockets on the Mk3 just aren't a great spot because they're thin and the opening is fairly short. Mounted between the console and seat is a decent place, yep.
Oof. Maybe I'm just getting old, but sitting on a pile of metal like that just sounds unpleasant haha. Nothing wrong with being prepared though, and given where you live, worth it I'd say.
I carry full size 1911 IWB everyday too. Springfield Armory is on the do not buy list. Unless somebody can show otherwise.

Springfield has a video with an apology from family member that is the head of the company. And anybody with children who knows what crocodile tears are will recognize what I saw. He did not seem to be honest. To me, he got caught. Which sucks. I have 2 M4s from Rock River and a 1911 from SA.
