ok guys i found a 91 turbo auto on craigslist...
102K on motor and body
missing trim, mirrors, headlights, brake lights, interior door panels, center conceal lid, and sunvisers.
it has a blown head gasket.
he wants 850 for it
is it worth that?
thanks

idk man its a tough call with the blown headgasket cause you have to take into consideration what did he do to cause the hg to go, and does it need a re-build now. ive seen stock hg's hold over 500hp.

I can't tell you one way or the other, but it looks like alot of work. If there is zero rust and the panels are all strait, it might be a good candidate. If you have deep pockets, good tools ie an engine hoist, engine stand, time, patience and a good garage and knowhow, then go for it! gl. Personally, I'd save up some more $$ and find a good Soup you can cruise in right away. Get someone else's money pit that's already partly filled. (Cuz that's what they are). Nice cars when they are all dialed in, though.

i wasn't going to give him the full 800 i was gonna pull out like 500 and see what he says. i mean my dads a master Toyota tech he worked for Toyota when the mk3's came out and when the mkIV's came out his got all the tools and we got a nice garage. but do you think the parts its missing is a lot? now take in to consideration i have a 91 non turbo same color scheme. so i could kinda steal parts off of it and than sell it for a cheap price.

If you already have a good n/a why don't you just do a n/a-t conversion? That turbo engine needs a complete rebuild anyways, so you aren't any further ahead... mind you, if you can pick it up for $500 and it's otherwise clean, just the parts would be worth that... gl.

I'd shoot the 500 and see what happens.. I paid $650 for my NA and the top end needed to be put back together, brakes were shot (still acting up now :( ) and a few weeks down the road I did the HG before it blew.

Shoot for less and see what happens. I personally wouldn't pay more then $600 for it.

i was thinking take the head off look down the cylnder walls if it needs a rebuild do it. if it looks good get the head machened and run a stock head gasket with ARP bolts. stock everything else. crank the boost up to 8psi (auto car only 6psi) or more and run it for a while put exhaust and intake and run 300-320hp. does that sound good? or am i crazy? i mean i got my dad and i got a guy who is spiting distance building a 7m for his 3rd time this time with forged internals and aiming for 600 so...

91/92's are pretty limited, and thus worth more than other years. I would only borrow the parts from the N/A to put this one back together. Keep the N/A, and slowly buy the parts you need to put it back together as well. You're not truly a MKIII owner if you only have 1.
