Well I am looking into what to do as a career. I have always wanted something related to cars. The JC I am looking at offers a Toyota tech program. I am wanting to know if there are any T-Techs on the boards. Also, a few questions, how is the experance at Toyota? How did you acquire the education necesary for said job. And all the other opinoins about how good/bad it is. Any insight would be helpful as I need to enroll asap. Also, were you gaurinteed a job righ out of school? And another more personal question, you dont have to answer, what is the starting yearly salary for a good mechanic?

i am working at a local Jiffy Lube full time now and I am one of the more experanced guys there. I actually like comming home tired as shit, with grease up to my elbows. I used to get dirtier in sutoshop when replacing halfshafts in FWD cars. Its a love I having somethinig to do during the day. I think I would go crazy if I were to get a office job.

I come from a land down under
In the late 80's I had a job as a fabricator on a race team and while it was "fun" and the "bigtime" it totally removed any enjoyment I had working on my own cars!

Best thing I ever did was to work for myself in an unrelated indusrty so cars became a fun hobby again! (till I started on my Mk3) ;)

I am currently a Toyota Tech and I enjoy it very much!! I went to a J/C (Gwinnett Tech) for a Nissan Program that lasted for about 2 years. They paid for half of my tools and I had a job at a dealership during and after the program. I stayed at the dealership for about 6 months after the program ended and I hated the managment at the dealership and at the same time Toyota was offering me a position for more money so it was a no brainer. Yeah you come home covered in grease sometimes but that is why they invented Go-jo and showers. Toyota takes really good care of thier people plus they are selling cars like crazy so you know you will have plenty of work to do. Something good for the future is the fact that not as many people are being profesionally trained in this field so in a few years when all of the old school techs retire the damand will be higher for younger well trained techs which means more money for us. There are already a few older techs at my dealership that are taking home almost 6 figures a year. Even if you choose not to stay with Toyota you will have the basic skills and knowledge to work with any brand you want. PM me if you want hear some more

P.s. The discount on parts doesn't hurt either!!:biglaugh:
