And for 1/5th the cost you can stroke the LS to pretty well as big as you like... and still have a smaller/lighter package.

Sorry to sound like I'm bagging the UZ but having been involved with qa couple the last 4>5 years I just don't think it makes sense to use in a Mk3.

You can pick up a good kit for $2700 with crank, rods, pistons, rings and bearings for a 4" bore ls and take it up to 400+ ci easy. I'd limit it to that for a daily.

I Grew up Chevy, so know the point your giving. But when I got my first supra(don't know how I ended up getting it lol) I fell in love. Knowing its Toyota and JDM, I don't wanna cross breed this one. I wanna keep it to its make you know?

Understand, different strokes for different folks :) I pondered a pure breed swap like yourself but I wanted a 3ur-fe, but ls was just the best choice for me.

No no I don't "know" you're going to swap in a V8 to a car that never had it as an option and some idiotic brand loyalty makes an inferior engine a good choice...

JDM what a load of garbage, I'm so sick of the term and belief that it somehow makes something more desirable...

Actually go for it I've said my piece and am done with this.

Say what you've got to say. No reason to hold back... It's just the Internet. I post about info on a 2uz, got what I need, got a lil extra, and some change in thought. I don't want to go ls because I want to stay Toyota, and it is a VERY COMMON swap. Can't tell you how many 240's, civics, supras, rx7's I've seen in the past few months in my local area for sale. I wanted to be different. Most people that only know 1jz and have never actually looked into Toyota products never even heard of uz motors. Hell everyone but my buddy that does the manifold didn't know the engine. Which made it to me more desirable...

Plenty useful when the build is over, I don't plan to swap and call quits... Turbo, full build, upgrade as much as possible(where funds can go) and have that "Racecar" lol

Sorry to everyone else... I dont like cranky people that just rant about themselves being right.

LoL ..... all I hear from IJ is crap about an LS engine being better. I would take a toyota/lexus engine(same company you know) over an LS overpriced paperweight any day of the week. You can buy the parts for the LS cheap because they are cheaply made and people stand behind the cars because they believe the crap that the commercials state about them. Last but not least, JDM ... the fact that they have an abbreviation for their market that you know makes the motors cost more and run better makes me wonder why you haven't done more research about what they do that makes the motors better in the first place. I have never heard a machine shop state that a toyota or lexus motor needs to be beefed up... balanced... blueprinted.... really anything more then replacing old head-gaskets properly with better materials. For that matter, JDM also makes a 4g63 2.0 dodge/mitsubishi motor that, in many peoples opinions, is one of the BEST built motors ever made and way ahead of its time. And btw... If I had to pick any domestic motor to put into my Toyota again... it would be a HEMI!! lol... just thought about that... a HEMIYOTA... HEMOTA...hmm....

Now that I made him mad at me.... what was the original poster wanting... oh right.. .a toyota motor opinion.

To the original poster, from all the stuff you can find about the 2uz-fe and the other models of the same engine. It is a truck engine and might not handle the way you want it to. Even the cams and the programming for the engine will be based off of driving it at low rpms and grunt work. For that fact alone I would pick the 1uz-fe vvti motor OR the 3uz-fe vvt-i which is available in the newer lexus cars and because they hardly every break there will be motors available in the wrecking yards from accident victims :)

oh... I got a good joke that is relevant to this thread. Keep in mind I have nothing against domestic cars at all so dont attack me for this.

So 4 cars enter a race to see who could complete 100 laps around a winding twisty track the fastest. 1 car was made by ford, 1 was made by dodge, 1 was made by general motors, and last but not least 1 was made by toyota. All the cars had the same horsepower and final gear ratios to make it absolutely as fair as possible. They all line up at the line and waited for the whistle....... BANG!!! everyone starts but the ford.... which made the bang as its rod came through the top of the motor. After a while in the race the dodge suddenly crashes for no apparent reason. When checked out they found the ABS system locked up the brakes on the car in the middle of a corner.... wow. Down to two cars.... who is gonna win.... lap 60..... lap 70.... lap 80... wait.... where did the chevy go. It was in the lead last lap.... oh there it is.. out of gas. Toyota wins in style!

HA HA HA, ok... I have to admit.. not that funny but it really was a joke I heard at a swap meet where a camaro was making noise about his car. In the end... its more about the reaction of the people who love the domestic brands.

What have you actually done that's of note?

I built and ran one of the most highly developed 7M's for roughly 13 years, had 25K in engine management alone, wrenched on a real Group A team back in the late 80's.

My history is quite well known here I've spent the best part of 10 years actually helping people not just shooting my mouth off so if you're going to take a shot by all means go ahead, to us you're a collection of 1's and 0's mostly 0's at this point.

6'8" Giant I mean seriously do you honestly think anyone cares or is in awe of you for that little fact?

<EDIT>

Sorry didn't realise I was arguing with a 2nd year apprentice... I mean with a whole year of training I bow to your superior knowledge on all things automotive... :nono:

I forgot to mention that I am a second year apprentice mechanic (decided to do engineering and use mechanic skills for playtime) and my dad is a registered mechanic. I will take it to a shop to have the exhaust inspected since I dont like laying on the ground much. I did a good overview of the car including a really clean engine bay and the original owner was a car nut.

I had plans to do the timing belt and head gasket anyways but I dont know where to get the good head studs.

Needless to say this area isn't known for having the best parts stores. I am gonna be including pictures of the engine bay and as soon as I make sure its safe to do so I will get an under-body picture.

I liked his info. Gave me a very big insight on what I wanted to do. Gave me more info of which I didn't know. And helped prove the fact that accessibility to the motor is as easy as I thought(local junkyards) thanks for that!

Background isn't a way to throw superiority... Guarantee youve been around the block and such but he was right about being cranky. We all don't have to start keyboard racing and fighting so no need for that, just stating facts.

All well and good but some of his "information" in other threads has been wrong...If I'd realised he was a 2nd year I'd have laughed it off as a joke and not bothered replying...

Sure I'm cranky, can't help it after 10 years of knownothingdouchebags thinking everything is "easy" after watching too many episodes of Initial D ;)

The whole JDM BS annoys the crap out of me, a couple of downsides to your original idea of a 2U would be weight and if they're a tall deck block you're going to run into Brake booster clearence issues as it's tight with a 1U, not to mention the FE head design isn't exactly performance oriented.

Sorry if I come across as an ass (might be because I am) but after 37 years of playing cars being different for the sake of being different just doesn't make sense to me..

Never heard of initial D... I wanna YouTube it now lol. But yea. After looking at weight and sizing, 2uz is kinda being ruled out... I'm really liking the sounds of 1uz though... And I guess there's always that one side of me that wants to show my grandfather wrong lol. I grew up helping him out with his Chevy products, he has a 57 bel air with a 383 Stroker, he built it himself and always told me power is from Chevy... You can't get that out of a rice burner. When I got my 89 supra I always had those words as a challenge. One day we will have our race :) I would love to go 2jz but it's just too pricey in the long run compared to 1uz and the connections I have making things slightly cheaper...

1UZ "might" be cheap for a base engine, anything above that is a joke price wise, I'm involved with 2 of them at the moment in a Bud's cars, 1 is a 112 blown SC400 the other an NA 1Uz with a 650e in an early Cressida, can't say I'm overly impressed with either.. (I've been doing the majority of the Fab work for him)

Anyway it's late here had a long hot day in the shed it's time to drag my Cranky Old ass to bed.. ;)

It all comes down to brass tacks.

- 1UZ is expensive for a minor power gain and only a 4.0
- 2UZ is heavy and designed for trucks so it doesn't make much more power than the 1UZ when it's a 4.7
- 3UZ is a 4.3 and it actuall has racing heritage with Toyota, so parts might be available to tune them.

Then you get into the UR motors from Toyota, but the huge issue with them is the control systems for them and getting them to work in an older car...

All of those motors are the same amount of work (or more) than an LS motor...and you get more power out of the LS.

The 2JZ is cheaper than a 1UZ in the long run, dunno why you'd think it wasn't...

It's easier to get hands on a uz and start on it price wise than a jz.

Yet the 2JZ is nearly 100% bolt in...

That's like saying you'd like to go with a jet engine because it's laying around...
