yea, i'm going to do that. there is also another test that you can do, which involves removing the thermostat and disabling the water pump. i'll go into more details later.

Malloy: You don't need to do it in 3 passes as you're just back cracking the Studs ie: You'll hear it CRACK as you undo it this is enough.

It's like maybe 1/16th of a turn no more then pull it straight back to the desired torque setting.

Doing it this way keeps tension on the head preventing any further problems.

here is an update. i ordered a new cometic 2.0MM HG just to be safe. i did the block test and it failed ever so slightly. i think it is only leaking under heavy boost. car runs fine, 650 idle, oil is not containmented, and i'm not loosing coolant.

i'm going to do a retorque this weekend and flush the coolant and oil system. if a retorque fails i'm going with the new MHG.

i only have 5000 miles on my rebuild. i hope the block is still in good shape as i don't want to pull it again.
